A Tiger, a Truck Stop and a Pitched Legal Battle

The truck stop here just west of Baton Rouge offers all those things, but as most southern Louisianians know, it has another less standard feature: a 550-pound Bengal-Siberian tiger.

How many more years is Tony going to be stuck at this truck stop? What is wrong with La? I remember signing petitions from 2 years ago and there he is, still at the truck stop. This is animal abuse and needs to end.

What??!! Tony is still there??!! His physical health may be good but what about his mental health??!! Does he really want to live in a 40' x 80' enclosure??!! Would these truck stop owners want to??!! This poor animal's life is just fun and games for them and he needs to be removed...I'm sending this to PETA, hopefully they can put the pressure on as they always do!!

This has gone on for years now. We have driven passed Tony on our way to FL and I refuse to stop and be apart of the whole experience.

What the hell! Tony has been suffering for years as a side show stuck in a small cage! We need to do something about this again! I will do what I can for Tony.

There were some Care2 people who felt Tony was OK and should stay with what he knows. Perhaps they are right but I vehemently disagreed. There was a very passionate disagreement among us. But my main point here is that Tony isn't the first tiger the owner has had. Apparently certain Care2 people think Tony should stay where he is and the owner will then stop having tigers. I'm watching for when Tony dies - I'd bet my life that the owner will get another tiger cub. I wanted Tony to go to a sanctuary with other tigers. Some Care2 people said tigers are solitary. I've since seen many videos of sanctuaries with groups of tigers playing. Noted! I want Tony to go to a sanctuary.

A 40x80 ft enclosure seems way too small for a tiger. I am sure that Tony would enjoy spending the remaining years in a large sanctuary where he will be free to roam. There are several sanctuaries that allow the public to visit, so it is not like the tiger would never see people again.

This makes me furious past all words! Tony belongs in a sanctuary with room to move and fellow tigers.

Thanks for the update. I'm very upset about this. It was bad enough that we thought we had this taken care of before. I will pray that Tony the Tiger goes to a sanctuary soon and those responsible for this cruel treatment have very short misable lives and then have to relive all the pain and suffering, every day, that they have caused these magnificent beasts forever while in hell. God is watching.

Tony is still there because that bastard that has Tony is paying someone off so that the poor animal can stay where he is!

This prick has kept this poor animals in a cement cage for far too long. I'd love to lock him in a cage like that.

God does not want Tony locked up in a 80x40 ft cage. Sandlin is an uncaring POS!! I gave Tony over to God a lonnnnnnnggggggggggggg time ago and I'm so glad. I no longer worry about him, his health, Sandlin, nothing. Oh, if there are more petitions to sign you bet I'll sign them!! But it's better for my health if I TRUST IN GOD to take care of 'my' TONY. Thnx for the update Cher.

Michael Sandlins says -it's not the money it's the principle -no it's not the principle it's the -publicity and notorioty -he gets from keeping Tony a- prisoner in a concrete box-he's the one -stopping Tony from beiing -free and going to a sanctuary.-shame on -him.

This breaks my heart to see this poor cat. He deserves much better. How long can they do this? It's an outrage, they need to stop this. I would like to put them in a cage for the rest of their lives. FREE TONY !!

I along with everyone here have followed Tony the tigers story, and also signed all petitions, and hoped the day would soon come that we would read about his move to a sanctuary, all to no avail. The only way Tony is ever going to leave this place will be when he dies.

**I heard from PETA and they have already taken action against Sandlin!!** Please read below part of their response and follow link to send email to Sandlin!!!

"Thanks for contacting us about Tony, the tiger at the Tiger Truck Stop in Louisiana. We share your outrage that this situation has not been resolved and that Tony still exists in this awful situation. PETA has campaigned against this roadside display for many years. We have filed complaints with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Louisiana officials, posted action alerts and have written countless letters in an effort to get the tigers "retired" (there used to be multiple tigers in two different locations). We wrote to the owner of the truck stop, offering to help pay the costs of moving the tigers to a sanctuary.

If ordered to move Tony, as expected, Sandlin has announced that he intends to send Tony to a notoriously awful zoo in Oklahoma called G.W. Exotics. Please appeal to Sandlin to retire Tony to a reputable sanctuary with large grassy enclosures where he can run, jump and swim—not be moved to another cramped, barren cage at G.W. Exotics where nearly two dozen tigers have reportedly perished.

You can find all the information here: http://www.peta.org/b/thepetafiles/archive/2011/12/14/send-tony-the-tiger-to-sanctuary.aspx. Please share with as many people as you can. Thank you for caring."

Please send!!

While this creep is criminally inhumane and cruel beyond ken, it is also the fault of the local municipality and State, they are just as wrong. They should be the subject of legal action to rectify this matter as well as this terrible character.

Why is Tony still there!!! This is so wrong, he needs to go to a sanctuary where he can live his life in peace. Why doe the state let this continue to go on??

Shame on you, Michael Sandlin. Tony has been cooped up long enough. It is time to let him go to a Sanctuary where he can run FREE for the rest of his days.
