My cats knead me every day. Reading that article was PUNishment. I have wondered about the behavior of kneading and this answer seemed as good as any other, with some humor attached.

Thanks for the interesting and funny article. The behavior has a name among Japanese cat lovers, "fumi-fumi", meaning similar to stompings and of course, receiving fumi-fumi from their cats is considered to be a pleasure and even an honor.

My cure for insomnia is my kneading, purring kitties sharing the bed. My cats make a lot of biscuits! Happy, well-adjusted kitties!

I just wish the claws would stay in.

I was told, the earlier a kitten is removed from its mother, the need to knead ( sounds like Dr. Seuss) will be more intense, wearing off a bit, but will never go away.

Two of my cats knead but my Siamese boy does not.
I often wonder why I love my cats so much .
He had been beaten badly when I got him from a rescue and had many operations on his broken jaw that had reset in wrong position now he is a fine happy confident boy but no kneading

There is nothing like getting to know a cat on a knead to know basis. Love the relaxation that both kneads and purrs bring.

My cat that kneads me, gets rapped up in the moment and then the claws come out. When that happens, kitty is off my lap. He's been doing this for years and still hasn't learned. Maybe it's me that has to learn a different way to correct this behavior.

That was brilliant to read. I had to smile as Smokey was trying to knead my feet while I read this.x

I have two kittens who "make bread" on me constantly. They are the dearest little fellows. They make so much bread, as a matter of fact, that they wear themselves out doing it and fall asleep. Aside from the reasons given for a cat's kneading, I believe that energy streams down through their bodies. It must be so pleasurable to them, and healthy besides. By the way, for the author's info, there is no such thing as a "grey" tabby. He's BLUE. Tabbies come in silver, red, brown and blue and dilutes of these colors..
