It seems to me that is animal neglect if the dog was in the car for an hour. This dogs was already, "skin and bone" when they found it, so whether he was locked in the car for 6 days, or just poorly treated for sometime prior to being locked in the car, the answer is still neglect and abuse of an animal. Someone must own that car and have registration for the car.

I agree, Kit. Also, doesn't this store have security cameras outside? Can't they go back and find info on the tape? If this guy was my boyfriend, he'd be EX.!!!, AND I'd be cutting my vacation short. Poor little Zipper, hope they press charges on this man, and that he's going to be all right. Thanks, Cher.

Noted...I have a worse story, many neighbor left her 2 dogs at home alone for 2 weeks, while they went to Europe.
The dogs were barking 24/7, many neighbors were upset,I told her when she came back, she cut me off as a friend, even though I kept everyone from calling the cops on her,as long as they were barking, they were alive..
so she stopped leaving them alone for a few years, I had been away on my boat for almost a year when I get
an email from her asking if I called the cops ,she left them alone for 3 days,I wasn't even home, she blamed me.
some other neighbor finally got fed up....SOME "PEOPLE".SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO OWN PETS.

Gosh, I surely hope they don't release him back to the a**hole who left him in the car. Yes, even an hour can be abusive. that fact that he was skin and bones and shaking says a great deal.

I can't say what I would like to about this individual. It wouldn't be very polite at all. But the sadness is that the dog will have to be given back to him. God help the beautiful dog...

It's obvious by his condition he was left for days, instead of releasing the dog back to him he should be charged for abuse. The dog should only be released to the actual owner, the girlfriend. I hope she dumps that creep!

So many unanswere questions: Where was the girlfriend? How can you leave your car in a retail store's parking lot for 6 days without security becoming suspicious - I guess they don't have security cameras either? How did this idiot get home without a car?
I think the idiot's girlfriend needs to be spoken to as well; what would she be called, an idiotess?

Hard to believe! The dog's owner is probably just as stupid for leaving the dog with her stupid boyfriend! I don't think the dog should be released back to either of them but adopted out to someone who will really love and care for him properly.

I'm amazed his dog didn't die being left in a car like that!! The story Tasunka told is awful too I cannot understand anyone lea bing any animals to fed for themselves like this!!!!

This man needs an education from a shelter on what to do and NOT do to animals. Then he should NEVER be allowed to own an animal or have an animal in his care. And, the woman should dump him immediately.

Very abusive and inexcusable, if he did not want to look after his girlfriend's dog, why did he not say so and ask her if another friend who likes and respects dogs could do this for her, or even ask local vet tech who often will take care of other pets if paid for this. At least some vet techs would be able to give some sort of recommendation for a reliable boarding kennel if that is the only alternative. Much better than leaving her dog with someone who obviously did not care or have a clue that leaving a dog in a vehicle is a death sentence quite often. He obviously was not honest with her about looking and carefully for the dog. Hopefully the police charge him and his girlfriend finds out what he did and dumps his sorry posterior.

What the hell? They're giving the dog back to this moron? To look at the poor creature, he looks skin and bones already, so I wonder just how his life was prior to this incident. I know speculation can be dangerous, but I can't help it in this case. So many unanswered questions. Poor Zipper... :'-(
