I read an article yesterday regarding corporate partnerships between environmental organizations and fossil fuel companies. Ocean Conservancy was listed along with The Nature Conservancy, The Wildlife Conservation Society, National Wildlife Federation Endowment, Conservation International (Northrop Grumman is on its board), & World Wildlife Foundation as part of this dirty partnership. The National Resources Defense Council says they're in the process of divesting and are halfway there. The Wildlife Conservation Society says it is now in the process of divesting.

Groups listed with NO connections are Greenpeace,, Friends of the Earth, Rainforest Action Network, Oil Change International & Climate Reality Project. So, they are "clean." I'd been getting mailings from Ocean Conservancy, and unsubscribed yesterday. If anyone has further info, I'd be glad to know.

Thank you for the timely information Lois. I was considering making a donation to The Nature Conservancy and you're comments couldn't have come at a better time. I think we're going to see more and more of this type of thing happening; sadly.
Could you forward me the article link. Go to my page and send an e-mail through "introduce yourself" please and thank you.

From the article I posted tonight ("The Giants of the Green World That Profit From the Planet's Destruction")
"..The same goes for Ocean Conservancy, which has $14.4m invested in publicly traded securities, including hundreds of thousands in "energy", "materials" and "utilities" holdings. A spokesperson confirmed in writing that the organisation does "not have an environmental or social screen investment policy". Neither organisation would divulge how much of its holdings were in fossil fuel companies or release a list of its investments."

I am hesitating to sign up with them.

I hope all the environmental organizations develop a new/better policy on investing that takes into account not investing in the companies they are fighting. I am amazed.

Angelika posted "The Giants of the Green World That Profit From the Planet's Destruction," written by Naomi Klein. This is where I found the info I posted earlier. I believe it was Raw Story that posted it last week from the Guardian article. The Nation has also posted this, and Alternet and Truthout both had it at their sites today.

Further info is that Nature Conservancy has $1.4 Billion in publicly traded securities. Wildlife Conservation Society has a $377 Mil. endowment, and World Wildlife Fund is worth $195 Mil. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation: as of Dec. 2012 had at least $958.6 Mil. invested in just 2 oil giants: ExxonMobil and BP.

Sierra Club now has a clear policy against investing in, or taking money from fossil fuel companies. Sierra Club Foundation is still in the process of drafting a full divestment policy.

Please read these articles to get further, more in-depth information. Hope it helps.

I can not sign as I am already subscribe to OC. And while I am all for divestment from the the Oil Cartels, I must object to the insinuation that these groups are intentionally sleeping with the enemy. How many of you if you have personal portfolios or an IRA or a pension fund( Union or Corporate) mutual fund of any kind, ... and know exactly which Companies you are invested in? People, groups and organizations make investments all the time but seldom if ever do they actually hand pick each and every company stock that goes into that fund nd seldom if ever do the exercise micromanagement over all the subsequent sales and acquisitions made by the financial advisers/managers of those investment devices. What they do with those portfolios after they become aware of the conflict of interest in their investment is what not counts.

P.S. Perhaps it is just me but I find something akin to a karmic "Up Yours" in using their profits against them.
