Florida's tomato farms supply 50% of all U.S. fresh tomatoes but have also been called America's 'ground zero for slavery.' Countless workers held against their will, threatened with violence and forced to haul hundreds of heavy tomato buckets a day

read and noted and signed petition on 5-9-13 our systems are broken and totally outdated not only is slavery wrong but its also inhumane these farm worker's deserve to be treated like human beings not slaves they are the ones that are doing all the hard labor in the fields they should be free to join unions or form unions and not be harassed or forced to work for low wages or threatened with losing their employment everyone has the right to work but in ideal conditions do right by these folks.

Signed. There is a lot of rotten work conditions taking place in Florida, I know, I live here. Between it being a Right to Work State, people turning a blind eye, Republican controlled Legislature, the Federal Govt. allowing too many loopholes. It is endless how workers can be exploited in this State, all workers, not just the minority people.

We do need to act to protect all workers rights, both here and abroad. We need to loosen the grip of the whole industrial corporate agriculture has on the global food supply as well. Summer's here, and the farmer's markets are opening. Try to buy locally, and pay your growers a fair price for the work they do.

Frightening the way how many are treated as wage slaves and work under intolerable and unforgivable conditions. Desperate people will settle for crumbs and unethical employers know this and are only too willing to act as parasites and take advantage. Thankfully none of these stores exist in my country. I like to grow my own, at least I know where it is coming from.
