Thanks Cher. Signed and noted.

Yesterday, the Minnesota House passed our Marriage Equality bill. It goes to the senate on Monday and then to Governor Dayton, who has announced that he will sign it. Perhaps Minnesota will be the 12th state to legalize marriage equality for all its citizens!!!

The main issue here is what the government recognizes as marriage. Anyone who has ever been through a divorce will tell you that it isn't worth having a union officially recognized if that means you would have to "ask for permission," wait two years (depending what state you live in), pay lots of money, and go through all kinds of bureaucratic red tape to end it. Why bring the federal government into our interpersonal relationships? Its stamp of "approval" isn't worth it for the tax breaks, and we can petition our insurance providers to recognize our common law unions (some already do, and we need no additional laws for this.) Our personal affairs should be just that - personal. Besides, I want no part in anything that sounds like "the fight for marriage equality in our country." There is no reason to fight. Let's just support each other in our positive relationship choices, no matter what they look like.

I absolutely signed! If two people, any sexual preference, are in love and they want to get married, leave them the "F" alone! Marriage is more then a piece of paper. It is two people committing to each other as one.

Other than issuing civil unions, government should have NO SAY in adult marriage. Kick the homophobe sinners out along with the rapists and paedophiles.

Already in effect in Canada, the sky has not fallen, life carries on for all in society, the ground has not opened and swallowed the entire Canadian populace in retribution, our forests have not all burned to the ground, the rivers are still flowing and have not cascaded down upon us in a unrelenting flooding torrent of disapproval from above...it works and there are even gay ministers who are married and have their own sermons in the largest Protestant church in the country. Equality hurts no one except the ones pontificating prejudice.

Signed it already in March.
By this time next year, or by the next election time, there is a good chance that up to 1/3 of the 50 States - 17 States {doesn't divide up nicely into threes} - 33%, will have passed Marriage Equality legislation!

About 20 States, have State Constitutional Amendments, banning Gay Marriage. That was a very hot issue, State Constitutional Amendments, as little as 10 years ago! How things have changed for the better, in a very short time!
However, some of these States might be "tough nuts to crack". And it may take the rescinding of DOMA, on the Federal level, to override the last few holdouts.

Besides the States that now recognize Marriage Equality, including Minnesota which is the FIRST State IN THE MIDWEST and not on the two Coasts and New England...
Washington D.C. recognizes Marriage Equality, as do three Native American Tribal Governments. These Native American Tribal Governments can legalize marriages they have jurisdiction over, just like States can - but they still are restricted by DOMA, as long as that Federal law is in force.
