I don't think a simple apology will suffice. Thank you.

What good does an apology do the tigers? If you want to do something good for the tiger, take them away for the zoo and put in a tiger sanctuary. If you can't treat and animal right, you should loose it.

Shame on China. I don't trust their apology; what do they do if nobody looks ? They mistreat the Tibetans as well as they mistreat "their" animals. Close down that zoo !!

The officials have NO respect for humans so why do you think they would respect animals. Disgusting and despicable.

This apology will do nothing to help this poor tiger. This is disgusting.

Nothing would please me more if China was restricted on the kind of zoos they are allowed. They have been kind to the panda over the years, tigers are another story.

How about they stop imprisoning these beautiful animals under horrific conditions and end their slaughter of what's left of the wild tiger population. These people are despicable.

They'll just deny they did it and keep on doing it. They seem to delight in abusing their animals.

If they apologize and don't do it again it's step in the right direction. If it weren't for good zoos, sanctuaries, and habitats many species would be extinct. Perhaps they can learn to love and respect the animals and teach those in their community to do the same.

As a country, China has a long, long, long way to go in developing humane attitudes toward animals. I'm not minimizing what occurred with these tigers but there are far more hideous acts of cruelty perpetrated on dogs and cats. As well, the Chinese medicine industry fuels cruelty and death to wild and captive animals alike. Then there's shark-fin soup.

Noted...thanks Cher. This is very sad...cruelty to animals should never be tolerated. It sounds like, in addition to an apology, accountability from the zoo was sought by the government. The article, for those that read it, states that the government "asked the zoo to apologize, improve its management, ensure proper animal treatment and promise similar incidents would not happen." Sadly, these incidents happen too often in China, but there are also cultures that exist in China and other Asian countries (who are constantly scapegoated, often times here on Care2) that not only do not abuse animals, they don't eat them...ANY of them, and they hold them as sacred. I wonder how many of those commenting above signed a petition on Care2 asking that a restaurant not serve lion meat. It may surprise many that restaurant is located in Tampa, Florida. Simon Hooper...what's also "revolting" are bigots like you who demagogue entire countries and cultures because of the actions of some. And it's very hard to believe you live your sustain yourself without "anything" coming from China or so-called "Arab countries." I'm not sure whose computer you used to post your bigoted comment, but I'm pretty sure at least some of it was made in China.

With Tigers being swiftly wiped off the face of the earth i find this absolutely disgusting!! Shame on China, but as others have asked here what goes on when no one is around??? It doesnt bear to think off. I think all these beautiful endangered animals should be removed and relocated to countries that actually value their life.

I hope the management of the zoo learned a lesson and won't let this happen again!
