The California coastline is threatened by a desalination facility proposed to create fresh water from the ocean. The California Coastal Commission will decide whether to permit the proposed project in Huntington Beach as early as June!

I don't live in California now, but I did grow up there and there was a plant desalinating on the east side of the San Francisco Bay which I would pass when visiting relatives. I think they were actually trying to harvest the salt rather than the water, but it was being separated there. The Sierra Club could also have pointed out that the process does not smell very beautiful. I suppose I could use my old address to sign, but if they are sending it to specific representatives, I fear they would figure it out.

If this site allowed me to edit the message to promote moving the facility to where it's clear of marine sanctuaries, equipped with screens and marine life return fixtures to prevent both unnecessary killing of marine life, and rigged to discharge its brine deep while recycling its cleaning fluds, I could consider such a facility somewhere like the Colorado River basin where it might help revive that dying river. We'll eventually need to use desalination to bolster our water supplies and we need to test the design, just not in the current designated location!

They really should work on this more to make it not dangerous to marine life as California is seriously in need of water. We have I think only one snowpack and it's 17% of what it should be. We are in a serious drought and climate changing has been making it worse this past year. We need new sources of fresh water.

I can't sign it, although I have several relatives in California. This kind of industrialization should be investigated and likely stopped, for the sake of the environment!
