Any police officer given a dog should have training on how to look after it but this should have been common sense which he obviously lacked Should be severely reprimanded for this

What an irresponsible piece of crap is right! He should be fired and made to do community work helping animals for a year. Cops get by with the exact thing they arrest or fine people for. This poor animals suffered a slow death from his negligence and irresponsibility.

I think this is too harsh and over-reactionary. The man made a tragic mistake, but not consciously, callously, or maliciously. He feels horrible and has to live with it everyday. An official reprimand really should be sufficient punishment.
As for him being an officer of the law, recall the recent case of an officer in Indiana who knowingly, willfully, and with no regard for the animal's well-being, broke the law by keeping a deer imprisoned as a pet for 2 years. His charges were dropped due to public sentimentality and pleas for leniency.
You can't have it both ways.

Wednesday May 22, 2013, 11:49 am senseless. How does someone not realize or remember at some point during the WHOLE NIGHT that they left the dog in the car??!! To me, it's the same as the people who left their babies in the car to die. They may not have meant to do it, but they need to be held responsible!!

This happens at least a few times a year with POLICE OFFICERS who should know better- WTF! There has to be a way to put some kind of alarm in the car that the dog can activate if left in the car for an excessive amount of time...

Noted and signed - bastard sob! Lock him in the boot of the car and push it into a river. Why should he still deserve to live - because he is human? In my eyes there is no difference. This poor animal had to suffer, and so should he be made to suffer. Poor poor dog, RIP precious child .

Noted, tweeted, shared, tweeted, shared, and signed. Sad because of careless a dog died; unfortunately, it will happen again just as it will happen with a sleeping baby in a car. We must be more care with those that we are responsible for.
