Last week brought bad news about the treatment of pigs in U.S. slaughterhouses. A report released by USDA's Office of the Inspector General [PDF] found that USDA inspectors fail to punish serious animal welfare violations at pig slaughterhouses.

Please tell the USDA that Americans won’t stand for negligence in the face of cruelty. Using the text below, please email Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack at........... agsec@usda.gov

ere is some sample email text, but feel free to edit in your own words:

Dear Secretary Vilsack,

The ASPCA recently alerted me to the Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) appalling findings about inhumane pig handling at U.S. slaughter plants. Thank you for empowering the OIG to carefully and critically evaluate such an important area of the USDA’s mandate.

I am stunned by the accounts of cruelty depicted in the report, and concerned by the continual failure of USDA inspectors to punish wrongdoers. The USDA must ensure that its employees understand requirements for proper slaughter. The agency must commit sufficient resources to enforcing animal handling laws and put an end to institutional tolerance for cruelty once and for all.

Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Signed -pedophile animal abusers obtain work at these places so as they can inflict their sadisim- on these poor animals without hindrance ,the recent -most cruellest of laws against animals which was first applied for in the state of -Iowa by the governor Mr,Terry Branstad and his side kick -Joe Seng -reported to be a vetenarian -shame on him -the AG-Gag laws which prohibits any one from taking photo's and documenting any acts of cruelty to the animals -thus aiding and abetting these -monsters in their depravity -Karma.

I wrote a very heartfelt and factual letter to Vilsack. I hope he reads it and seriously considers it and all of our voices! The current scandals in the White House make for timely point-making to these politicians with respect to animal welfare and free speech/press matters. It ties in. Accountability must be restored.

It wouldn't let me sign for some reason. This is completely unacceptable! When inspectors know what is going on and they choose not to address the issue I think it should be a punishable offense. And anyone who abuses or neglects an animal should be put on a national animal abuse registry. Since the inspectors were a part of the abuse I think they should get their names on it, too!
