Torturing animals for fun, as long as it is captured on camera, is an act protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, according to a federal judge in Texas.

Horrible...Sounds like it also protects people filming animal torture on factory farms. This judge can't have it both ways.

he's insane,I can tolerate a nazi pride parade, as long as they aren't torturing people or animals on a float
that's first amendment protection, filming a crime should not only not be protected it should be reported as a CRIME.

This is from the article:

The answer came at the end of the article in the form of a quote from First Amendment expert and University of Chicago law professor Geoffrey Stone:

“The truth is that we are in fact cruel to animals constantly in our society and we don’t take that interest very seriously,” Stone says. “We don’t take it seriously when we’re hungry. We don’t take it seriously because we like to hunt animals just for the fun of it, and all of a sudden, we take it seriously when people want to make movies.”

If some people do not take this seriously that then make it some how okay for the sick twisted minds that find some unnatural pleasure in hurting animals? The judge is dead wrong, there is nothing within the protections of free speech that protects anyone from actually doing harm to any life.

Free speech? So, if you sell videos showing yourself committing any crime such as raping someone or committing murder, you don't have to pay for the crime? What nonsense is that? Well, they may have gotten off on the Federal charges, but they can still be prosecuted under Texas law. That would entail a $10,000 fine and two years in prison, hopefully for each infraction. Give 'em hell Texas!

So sickening. . .Nicole Richards, Wayne Justice and Sim Lake are truly deranged and depraved. Words could never express what minds and hearts experience in reading this. . .but we must do our best to raise our voices. . .

"There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest." ―Elie Wiesel

“Animals share with us the privilege of having a soul.” —Pythagoras, about 570–495 BC, Ancient Greek philosopher

“The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different.” —Hippocrates, 460 BC – c. 370 BC, "Father of Western Medicine"

"We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace." ―Albert Schweitzer

The judge is probably watching these video's and getting off on them. He is just as guilty as these two murderers! And judges do get away with murder!
Sick! This is wrong! If these animals can be tortured, then so many humans can be labeled animals so therefore, we can torture human animals while they are being video taped too! Free speech, yes?
AHHH! This is insane! I doubt the animals would approve of this if they could speak damn it! I am sick now...

This judge, not considering the mental stability of the people who commit these acts, nor the mental stability who watch them, has trancended this into a freedom of speech and expression.
Either he watches these videos, or is a closet sadist who himself tortures amimals.

This judge should have to go through the same amount of torture and suffering of these animals, then I wonder what he would say about the first amendment when it came to this! This is nothing but absolute abuse of the first amendment! No one should have the right to torture an animal or any sentient being and be protected by the first amendment! This judge is an immoral a--! It's like shouting fire in a crowed movie theater- there are situations that shouldn't be covered by the first amendment! I thought that Obama and congress had passed a second Snuff law making this horrific cruelty illegal due to the Supreme Court's non supreme and idiotic reasoning on this issue! Can they prosecute these people on other felony animal cruelty charges? I hope that animal advocates appeal the decision of this assine judge and that these horrible monsters will be held accountable for their depravity and their hell bound deeds! These people will scream for mercy one day from their Creator as they will get back every abominable deed that they made these poor animals have to suffer!

Within the article:

After Houston couple Ashley Nicole Richards and Brent Wayne Justice were arrested earlier this year for producing and selling videos of Richards slowly mutilating cats and hacking puppies legs off with a meat cleaver, among numerous other sickening acts of cruelty, U.S. District Judge Sim Lake threw out all federal charges on the grounds that animal snuff films are protected speech.

My comment:

This isn't "speech" this is torture!

I'll track this, if anyone makes a petition or finds other petitions I'll most certainly sign. This is disgraceful. When they arrest Occupiers for taking on Wall Streets Greed, but these scum can continue to murder animals for so called fun, we live in a very arse backwards and sick society. Stand up for sanity!

Totally unbelievable. Would this particular judge also turn a blind eye to children being tortured in snuff films and deem it as 'artistic licence.' There is cruelty to animals legislation in the U.S., how could this judge ignore that aspect of American law?
