I volunteered at the only shelter on the island of Koh Samui. It was among the most emotionally taxing experiences of my life.

Very sad, but at least these dogs and cats were getting some care. Others do not.

"The dogs and cats I met will stay in my heart forever, and I strongly encourage anyone who visits this beautiful Thai island to visit the shelter."

I know someone who did. This is a luxury hotel compared to what else he sees when he goes. Dogs on grills is a common sight. :-(

All shelters are heart-breaking, some more than others. I feel better knowing that these poor critters are getting food, shelter and medical care. A chance for a good life. Otherwise...THAT would be truly heart-breaking.

Very sad...all those animals. It appears that they are doing what they can to help. It's a start.
Thanks Cher

As Kit wrote, think of those who are alive because of this rescue. What a country.

What's that the Bible says--get the log out of your eye before you complain about the splinter in your neighbor's eye? Something like that.

This shelter in Thailand is not on an island, and is run by a couple of expats, who do the best they can. Their kittens can often be seen on The Daily Kitten (most recently on 5/23):

Noted. I guess a little care is better than none at all. Thanks Cher
