It's been 10 years since I moved away from the country, but, I will never forget this experience. Deer are creatures of habit, they have a feeding routine. Each evening, 6-8 would come through my backyard. I encouraged this as I would ask my local supermarket for unsellable fruit to feed them.
There was one young deer who was lame that was part of the pack; it couldn't stand on one of its front legs, and had to hop/galllop. This deer was so timid, it would not push its way into eating the apples, bananas. pears I threw out. I would sit on my porch steps, showing it the fruit I had. Long story short, it eventually allowed me to pet it while eating. It was a great thrill.

If it's not deer season and I'm not hungry, deer are only on the camera menu. If they're in season, I respect animals enough to eat my kills. I hate poachers and waster idiots who leave kills behind. I respect deer enough to take runt bucks if I want venison and help the species continue in absence of natural predators. Bring back the wolves!

There are a lot of deer where I live. I enjoy watching them...only wish they would stay off the highways.

Deer are delightful to watch and observe as I see many of them in the wild and spend some time just watching them taking care not to drive fast on the highways as it is deer country and one must keep one's eyes always open to avert tragedy for the deer. For those enjoying time in Nature, please don't toss your cups and other garbage out the car door as you are ruining the home of the animals that are there.

Thanks for sharing. They are indeed magical moments, encounters with deer in the woods. One minute they are there and in a blink of an eye, they're gone.
