Honeybee populations were down a third in the Spring of 2013. This is no surprise due to the widespread use of deadly pesticides known as neonicotinoids, or nics. Nics are an indirect cause of colony collapse, a plague that is killing bee colonies

I don't know what that the flower in the picture is called. It's growing in my front garden, I didn't plant it, but I have hundreds of honey bees tasting the nectar every day.

Thanks for the notes, but the thing in my front garden is not a member of thistle family. Long smooth leafs, about 4 feet tall, has big blossoms that look a little like a thistle. If it didn't bring out so many honey bees and butterflies I would have pulled it out.

Your signature has been recorded. Signed and Noted. We desperately need the honeybees for pollination. We are all connected. Kill off the bees and bats and pretty soon...we will follow.

I have a beautiful Butterfly bush and the bees and hummers just love it. It is such a pleasure to watch all the life around it.

During Hurricane Hugo a dead tree got broken and eventually fell. Well inside that hollow broken tree was a huny bee hive!!! :) delicious honey !!! . But as summer came on the blowers came. Down here we have mosquitoes so bad that If you go out unprotected you would be covered in them, Also we have a high West Nile Virus problem. So at night we have "Blowers " come by The blowers are big pickup's that have a big machine in the bed that has a "Blow Gun" pointed out to the side. They drive by slowly blowing out insecticide . Sorry to say the bee's are less in number down on the broken tree, but when the plants are blooming they come back in large numbers. I think they simply moved to the top of the tree...

The long lived pesticides kill both beneficial insects that eat the pests, and the pests. Quitting pesticides results in a horde of pests until the predators like birds, bats, and predatory insects come back in where they belong.
