The good news is that President Obama can permanently protect this unique wilderness area near the Grand Canyon with the stroke of a pen, by naming it a national monument. Tell President Obama to stand up to corporate interests and establish his legacy

I was just out at the canyon on July 5th. I've gone several times since 1973 and I have to say that the general environment around the canyon has deteriorated somewhat (although in the park on the South Rim, the NPS has instituted numerous environmental programs that are aimed at reducing waste, emissions and undesirable pressures on the ecosystem).
One big problem is that over the 40 years I've been going (this was the 40th anniversary to the week of my first trip!), the water flow in both rivers, the Colorado and the Little Colorado has seemed to have been going down. This year (my first visit since 2004), the Little Colorado was completely dry. On the upside, this was the first time I've been that there's been rain while I was there. The Native Americans with whom I spoke outside of the Park though, said that climate change has been very noticeable and has been impacting their lives for the last 2 decades.
If you have never been, this is an experience in awesomeness! It should be on your bucket list.

BTW, I can't believe that people actually get 20 points for typing in "Noted" or "Signed and Noted"... amazing! Almost like saying you care about the election but failing to get up off your butt to go to the voting booth yet whining and throwing a tantrum when it doesn't go your way.

N & S I still remember the awe that the Grand Canyon inspired in my nine year old mind, and it still does. Now if they really want to make the state of Arizona more palatable for more people to visit not only the grand canyon but the rest of the state, Arizonans need to get rid of three of the biggest canyons - dumb, prejudiced as hell jan brewer, war loving McCain and the truly horrific "sheriff" Arpaio..

I have only seen the Grand Canyon and the South Dakota Badlands in pictures, but they are both awe inspiring and must be protected from development, mining and environmental degradation.

Obama must do the right thing and save this area. Glad to sign this one for such a awe inspiring place. We spent 3 days at the South Rim then hiked down the Bright Angel Trail, got in raft and spent the next 6 days rafting the Colorado then back to the Rim for another day. If you've never been and can get there, go. Promise you won't be disappointed. The first glimpse of the canyon will almost take your breath away.

Noted and signed. The USA is so lucky to have beautiful natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, I never ever forget that gigantic view. It took nature millions of years to build, it would take big business a few years to destroy. It is a world icon not just a US icon and we must preserve these wonders of nature like many others on our planet.
