A Time Of Abba, Sideburns And... Energy Crises?

We tend to think of modern energy consumption when we hear the term "energy crisis". Our growing need for ever increasing quantity of energy in the form of oil and gas is certainly unsustainable yet it is the 1970s where we see two very big problems

In terms of where oil is used the most is in rural areas in the East, the entire area west of the Mississippi to the Rocky Mountains. This is most of our country - not it's population, but its vast majority of area..
As Obama can only see oil , and will not even consider other alternatives ( this of course being in direct contradiction to his commitment to climate change), the future looks bleak.
Even if Obama's hand was forced to agree to wind power, will the mid-western farner want to have a valley of wind turbines in the distance?
The government, if they had any intellligence, could offer farmers to solar panel their homes/barns at a tremendous tax break in doing so.The same goes for schools, libraries, police, fire stations etc.
We have a President who is just passive/aggressive. He doesn't know what he wants. I think it is time that he is told what the nation needs.

I remember the 70s - the lines at gas stations, some cars running out of gas while waiting in line and having to be pushed to the pumps. Even when you got to the pumps you couldn't fill the tank, but were limited in the number of gallons. Many people at the end of the lines would get close only to find out that the pumps were out for the day, or even for a few days. Was glad back then that I didn't drive. Still glad I never fell into that trap of "needing" a car to survive.

Of course today's a whole different ballgame. Like Allan's ideas about solar panels, especially for schools, libraries, etc. Too bad Obama is on the fence when i actually comes to actions needed. Sad, too.
