Who doesn't love a good rescue story? I have read that being polydactyl is not that rare in cats.

The gene for polydactylism is, I believe, dominant. Polydactyls are not that rare. Having enough toes to need to have some amputated to avoid them growing back into the body - now THAT is rare.

Great story. In my shelter, we have a multi toed tuxedo male we named Picasso. We name all the cats who are "dumped" at our shelter's parking lot given a name starting with a P.Guaranteed this angel will be adopted before the month is out.

Both are beautiful and I can see why they didn't want to separate the two when they were adorable kitties. Thank you.

I am more of a dog person, but when I saw a polydactyl cat at the shelter, I ALMOST adopted him. He looked like a regal lion. Very handsome!
