The traditional green benefits of a conservatory are well known to most of us by now but perhaps you want to squeeze even more environmental friendliness out of yours. In this case, it is a good idea to consider adding some blinds to it.

Not because they are cheaper, because they are better for keeping heat in or the sun out. The blinds I bought are made from bamboo, no worries about plastic or waste of trees. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to use products made from hemp.

That's what gets me Kit. We can use bamboo but not hemp which is a durable plant with high yield; low water requirements and does not require fertilizer and pesticides and is natural to NA. Bamboo takes a long time to grow and the excised bamboo from indigenous forests results in species endangerment. Hemp does not.

My house faces directly east to west (on the sides); the blinds are never opened in the summer.

OK, this is off topic but I just have to share. I am having some eyeglasses issues right now and I first read this as "The Additional Green Benefits of Conservatives With Blinds." And I thought, "Don't they already wear them?"

I'd sure love to have one of those types of rooms on my house! Just not in my budget. I do love blinds though.
