Three Italian ministries are attempting to ban Monsanto's MON810 strain of maize, one of two GM crops currently grown and sold in Europe. Citing the crop's negative impacts on local biodiversity, Italy's agricultural ministry is leading the country's

"While Italy’s ban is a step in the right direction, it is ultimately a formal act. Nearly 80% of Italians are already in support of the ban, according to a nationwide survey directed by Coldiretti, Italy’s largest farming group. Indeed, almost no GMO crops were cultivated in last year’s harvest; only a few pro-biotech farms decided to plant these strains.
GMOs are hardly the norm in Italy".

Boy, this is hard....but I'm only going to say one thing. At least the author of this article had the chutzpah to mention that the Seralini GMO/tumors in rats study was seriously flawed and manipulated, discredited and dismissed by the international scientific community. It's not mentioned that further studies have never reproduced Seralini's results. Since the study seems to be the basis for the GMO controversy, it's refreshing that someone finally states that it didn't prove anything at all.

Barbara D., since Serelini's study concluded and published in 2012 and it was a 2 year study, it would be hard for it to have been reproduced by now, since it was a 2 year study.

Serelini has answered his critics. Before you judge whether his study was flawed, please read how the critics were answered, then decide for yourself before you make judgement.

With every country that bans Monsanto, or burns their crops, it's another nail in Monsanto's coffin. With all this going on it will be more difficult for Monsanto to deny that GMOs are unhealthy. Noted with thanks for the good article.

Kathy B, on the off chance that you come back and see this ~
The anti-GMO, GMO SerAlini Organization website presents an unauthored, unreferenced, unsubstantiated, and am I to assume unbiased?? article to justify and defend SerAlini's conclusions.
Independent, international scientists, researchers, health organizations and biogeneticists present scientific facts and methodologies that discredit and dismiss SerAlini's conclusions.
Draw your own conclusions as you will.

Barbara, I do draw my own conclusions, usually by following the money. Serelini is an independent scientist, his institution (CRIIGEN) takes no money from the GMO peddlers of the planet. Had you done some exploring of the site, you would have found the site isn't even owned by Serelini.

I do not believe for one minute that who you claim to be independent international scientists, researchers and health organizations are what you claim to be - independent. They denounced his study within days of it being published, which lead me to believe they had not had time to study it themselves. Then there is the fact that because of the depth of his research he has not had time to publish everything.

I've drawn my conclusions about GMOs, they are poisoning the planet and the critters and humans on it, and they will not help feed the hungry.

Why is Europe catching on when the US is, seemingly, willing to let Monsanto contaminate our crops and animals?
