The Obamas have finally gotten around to installing solar panels on the White House, complementing their other green initiatives, including an organic vegetable farm.

I'm happy they are finally putting new solar panels on the White House, they should have be updated through time and never removed.

Solar water heaters on the White House grounds “can either be a curiosity, a museum piece, an example of a road not taken, or it can be a small part of one of the greatest and most exciting adventures ever undertaken by the American people; harnessing the power of the Sun to enrich our lives as we move away from our crippling dependence on foreign oil.” -Carter, 1979

Thanks Cher

Now if we can just keep the Republicans out of there so they can't remove them - happy to hear of this - thanks, Cher!

Who is going to pay for tjhe instillation? It's odd that Geo. Bush did not install these in the White House, as his ranch is completely solar powered.

@Arielle S Don't worry about it, Hillary won't take them down except to update them to newer models.

On again ... Off again ... White House. Pretty much sums it up. Results based on who has the ear of our leaders at any given time. He who screams loudest usually wins ... temporarily. What a waste of time and talent.

When President Reagan, destructively, removed the solar panels that President Carter had installed, it was pure _EGO_, and nothing, but. He was determined to let everyone know that he was in charge and if a democratic President had made this commitment to the environment, he was resolved to change it, good or bad.
Does this sound familiar?

This activity, as well as our current situation, is an exact example of why we can't trust the Republican Party. The interests of our citizens are not the their interests. They would rather fight with President Obama, than work together for the common good.
They aren't even shy about verbally proclaiming it.

This is not the Republican Party of yesterday, and I believe fortunately, not the Republican Party of the future.

Allan, Reagan had them removed, and it wasn't a priority under Clinton. I suspect neither Bush would have done so because both had such strong ties to the oil industry, it would have symbolically sent the wrong message to their party. The renewable energy sources installed at the Bush ranch were never heavily publicized, whereas it would have been VERY public to reinstall them at the White House. The Republican Party does not support anything but fossil fuel energy-- oil, gas, coal, etc.

Reagan's actions, when he took power, were very short-sighted. Imagine where we would be today if solar energy had been given the place that it deserved all those years ago.

noted and shared. Thanks for sharing Cher. This is fantastic news, if the President of the US can go green then it should be a loud and clear message to the rest of us. I personally like the Obama family and think that they are straight up good people. The US is lucky to have them.
