It is not unusual to walk into our house and see a cat sprawled on our natural wood floor, the look on his face saying: "I own this place. Who are you, and what are you doing here?"

When I was a child, my mom,. my sister, and I all got along with Loco (short for En Loco Enfantillus, pidgin Latin for In Place of a Baby, since he was there before I came along), but my father insisted he hated cats. Except for when he was sick, and would idly pet Loco. Or when Dad was bored. Or thought no one was watching.

Yes, he *said* he didn't like cats, but we know the truth.

Same thing happened to me. Twice. Started with I'd let the cat in because it was so hot or cold out and before I knew it, they were in the house all the time and I started feeding them twice a day like I do m own cats. I still tell them, they aren't my cats.

My husband and I live by the philosophy -- there's always room for one more. We live in the country where irresponsible people dump cats and dogs. The cats seem to always make their way to our house, thankfully, in the middle of twenty acres and we would never turn one away. Over three decades-plus we have acquired three purebred male Siamese cats this way (we believe there is a breeder nearby who didn't want these guys for some reason) a number of pregnant females and several male cats all of whom were taken in, neutered or spayed, given medical exams and all became treasured family members of ours or of friends and relatives. I can't imagine ignoring a needy kitty and leaving him or her outside in harm's way. Glad the kitty in this story wore down the dissenter and found his forever home.
