Let me think aloud about our schools. I was told recently that when a group of children was shown ten vegetables, they could only identify one - a tomato. When they were shown ten corporate logos, they identified all ten. It makes you worried.

Absolutely brilliant, some us have been trying for years to make these ideas a reality. Across the US very few schools allow for on property gardening, perhaps teachers and principals just misunderstand the greater purpose. We do not need to teach "climate change" to teach the realities of a changing planet. We can not ask young people to understand this planet without knowing and understanding the geography, population centers, wildlife -v-human habitats.

it IS worrysome, and it starts a lot earlier than school !

" In the marketing world they are known as 'tinys.' At just 6 months, babies are already forming mental images of corporate logos. One in 4 [U.$.] children utters a brand name as their first recognizable word. " -- ADBUSTERS #48 (2003)

We have to go beyond "imagining". The problem is the reality of today's curriculum, and the need to see studernts"perform". The gardens we planted yielded an amazing amount of vegetables. But it only goes this far.

Glad to see that they are learning much more in our schools today. Been so much negative reports in the past, gald to see a postive note for a change.
Thanks Cher
