Go Green When Decorating for Holidays

Holiday decoration choices are often based on tradition and childhood memories. We try to recreate a simpler time in elaborate detail. The result is stress and anxiety rather than the peace and tranquility we seek.

We don't do lights (who's gonna see 'em out here in the north 40??) or much indoor decorating ~ hand made wreaths, BeanPod candles, baskets of pine cones sprinkled with snow glitter, and a fake tree with home made Hanukkah ornaments.
We put out seed feeders, popcorn, pine cone seeds, and bushels of wind fall apples from the orchard for the wild critters.

I'm about as green as you can get when it comes to holiday decorating...I don't see the need to do it since my boys have own families and live in different parts of the country.

My mom used to make this window decorations out of paper towel and toilet paper tubes. She would slice the tube making rings about 3/4 inch thick. Then she would wrap each ring with aluminum foil. Then she would tape each ring together until she had a Christmas tree shape. She had a bunch of these little glass ornaments. They really were not any bigger than an inch; but, they were small enough to hang freely in the foil covered ring. She would hand tie the ornaments inside the rings using button thread or some kind of heavy thread. After the rings were all filed with the small ornaments, it was ready to hang in the window. She would use button thread and tie it to the top of the tree shape. Then she would tie the other end to the window latch. If it was made bigger it could be used on a wall, as well.

I guess I could say I am green now, as I have sooo many Christmas decorations from collecting since back in the 50's, many I will be giving to charities for others to use.
Thank You Cher.
