The U.S. Fish and Wildlife service is planning to shoot and kill 3,603 Barred Owls in the Pacific Northwest in an attempt to help Spotted Owls regain territory. It is unnecessary and inhumane to kill Barred Owls for the sole reason of "making room"

At this stage the project, under direction of the Endangered Species Act, is experimental and extremely limited in scope to four specific areas.
The barred owl is a larger, aggressive and highly adaptable species which is infiltrating into the Pacific Northwest and is the major factor for reduction of the Spotted Owl population which is now listed as *Threatened*.
USFWS is acting in concert with environmental agencies to preserve forest health, habitat, and to preserve the Spotted Owl.

i hope that they can find an alternative - sounds like they have a difficult problem on their hands.Thank you for signing the petition "U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service: Do not kill Barred Owls in the Pacific Northwest" sounds like they have a choice, Spotted Owls or Barred Owls...i imagine the spotted owl is a small chap.

PERIOD!

They're a small part of a big ecosystem....it's not ''just'' the owls....ultimately, it's the forest!

This is the kind of thing caused by not thinking clearly in the first place. Too much old growth forest was logged causing the spotted owl to be "threatened". Now, since the barred owl competes better in any forest they want to kill them to help the spotted owls. Helping the spotted owls is important, but thinking ahead would have been better. Thanks.

Whenever we tinker with nature we screw things up. They have lost much of their natural habitat now there isn't enough space and food for them all we have to cull them. What a world we have created.

This conundrum has no winners. It is heartbreaking. Playing God makes me uncomfortable, though. Especially when the devil (FWS) is doing it. And I still don't know if gratuitous coyote torturer Jamie Olson is still employed there and the lack of transparency continues to piss me off.

Will sign! I love hearing the owls at night! There must be a better way to make room for the Spotted Owl than to kill another type of owl!!! Sometimes man can be so stupid!!! I bet it is cheaper to just kill thousands of Barred Owls then to figure a different way to help the Spotted Owls.

Do fish and wildl employees have no science background at all? The barred owl is filling a niche created by the logging industry and if you kill them others will invade the area. The only way you can get rid of them is to reestablish the forest in the areas where they have be removed. This is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard of. Completely devoid of using their brains out there.
