Banning bottled water entirely might raise objections, but San Francisco has come up with a compromise - banning sale of the stuff at certain major public events and on some public properties.

Kit, you took action on December 22, 2013. One city alone is not the answer. Every city and town blocking the use of plastic bottle and plastic bags, now that is a beginning. Thanks Cher

The laws that cities and towns in California adopt become case precedent for many other court cases around the country, and seem to become adopted -- even if many years later, by many other areas. That's why so many pundits track what's going on there so closely. Plastic bottles are simply a total waste. I know glass can break and be hard to clean up - but people successfully lived for decades with thermos bottles. Is convenience REALLY worth covering our entire planet with that stuff? Petition signed.

signed. I purchase bar soaps now, and am trying to avoid plastic containers, straws, anything that can end up harming the marine beings and water birds as well as corrupt Nature in general.

i have mixed feelings about this. i would love to say that we should simply ban everything plastic and disposable world wide but i have a toddler and when you have kids sometimes the convenience really is that important. i of-course recycle all my plastics but when a screaming kid has to have water right now, you kinda have to give it to them.
