Why Do Cats Love Boxes So Much?

Boxes aren't just fun and games for your kitty. Those 4 cardboard walls offer safety and security -- in addition to being a great place to swat at passersby.

You can make a box with some inexpensive ply wood for the strays in your area to help protect them from winter weather. If need be, you can also make them with sturdy cardboard boxes, any thing that offers some some protection from the bitter cold.

Every cat I have ever had would play in boxes. I have a 20+ pound tom that still tries to get in soda boxes. Its pretty darn cute

Kit, I have built many kitty boxes over the years. One year I had a nest of baby skunks lol. I have cut kitty access doors in my storage shed so they can go in and sleep. Whenever there are spay clinics I catch whomever I can and get them fixed and get the shots. Now I am surrounded by fat healthy kitties :-)

When traveling with my now departed kitty, Sparkee (she loved to travel), I would take a box and lay it on its side, facing the front and put it in the center of the back seat with a blanket folded up inside. She could lay on my lap if she wanted to or go lay in her box when she wanted to sleep and could see to the front seat of the car. Her litterbox was on the floor back there on one side, and her food and water on the floor on the other side. She would end up sleeping most of long trips, but she was comfy and could come back to my lap whenever she wanted to, or go lay up in the back window and watch the other people wave to her. lol.

In my cat resuce days, if I didn't have a box, I would cover a cat carrier with a blanket- including the entrance.
They had no problem going in and out behind the blanket. Just make sure the blanket is not too heavy.

There's not a day without a few boxes scattered around the living room. We even made them box towers made with several boxes varying in size with cut out holes which they loveeee...but with 10 cats these towers don't last long. Every week we pick up a couple new boxes and if you could see all of them hissing+meowing 4 that box. There's also a couple on the deck 4 whatever animal needs a lil protection from the elements. Thanks

Can't really make a good comment, as I am very allergic to cats and have doggies instead. But I will say they are so much fun to watch. I found that little kids loved to play with boxes also.
Thanks Cher.

Cute. I notice children love them to. Sometimes a plain old box is more fun and fascinating than the most sophisticated toys (cat toys or kid toys).

SSHHHH!!! The secret is they really don't. Cats only pretend they do so that otherwise intelligent and focused human beings will spend hours and hours writing, reading, commenting, and pondering on this great mystery.

Cats and boxes are a cozy and delightful fit, just purrfectly suiting all felines.

My cats loved boxes and my Kirby cat had a fetish for zip lock bags...I had to give him his own bag b/c he chewed up the ones that held my goodies!
