If anyone honestly believes that our living beings do not have emotions then they are either in denial or stupid. Creatures show fear, watch a video of them going in to a slaughter house if you doubt this. Humanity doesn't have a monopoly on emotion!

animals have the same emotional brain that humans have and are closer to their emotions than humans because they don't have all that suplurflous brain matter getting in the way so they can not lie...

I would more concerned it they wondered if we would taste good. (ok, so I am in a goofy mood.... )

I know animals have emotions, birds have emotions, etc. so why wouldn't a being from another planet have them? I would be concerned if they didn't.

What do alines have to do with this?Maybe I didn't read enough but why would they not? Animals of course have emotions and I agree with Howard-if people think they don't they are stupid or in denial-probably both. Some ridiculous study a few weeks ago said they they found that dogs really do love their people. Well, sue sorpresa. IT doesn't take a genius or some stupid study to know that. I am not a member of Mensa but I do know that my dogs do love me and even my cats although they might not like to admit it all the time.

How can scientists agree that aliens have emotions if we haven't met any yet?

Anyone who loves their pet will realize that they have emotions and feelings. Some cultures claim animals don't have that and also claim that they feel no pain. They are totally wrong.
The Japanese dolphin and whale killers have no feelings for any type of animals. I would like to see them if their families were ripped apart by some murderers who had no feeling for them. They would scream louder than those animal they are killing. (The dolphin and whale slaughter by the Japanese I used as an example, because it's the latest news.) But animal cruelty by humans is happening all over the world: Africa, the elephants, rhinos and other wild life are being killed to supply China with, hocus pocus medicine! In SE Asia & India, elephants, rhinos and TIGERS (in my eyes the most beautiful cat of them all) all for China's demand of quack (traditional) medicine.
But let us not forget Canada, their seal slaughters, Iceland and Norway for their whale slaughters. Many countries kill sharks in the most brutal way to supply China with fins. Australia is starting to (cull) kill sharks in Western Australia (I guess China will ask for the fins). Also Queensland (Austr.) is going to damage the Great Barrier Reef by dredging it to supply China with coal to make a few people rich..
Naturally they don't care, but their little workers will suffocate next to the pandas and cockroaches. No empire is ever bullet proof, greed will take over and destroy it. Animals will always survive, especially the cockroaches and the rich..
