Idaho's elk population has grown tremendously since the state legalized wolf hunting and subsequently eliminated their natural predators. Farmers have complained that these elk have been trampling their crops and destroying their livelihood.

If they would stop killing the wolves there wouldn't be an overpopulation of their prey animals......IDIOTS.

But wasn't it the farmers & the ranchers that were all for the wolf hunts. There is a saying, "Be careful what you ask for." No, there should not be a elk slaughter. This attitude of killing what they consider a problem is becoming a riddle. NO ELK CULL..

Signed! I am refusing to buy potatoes, on the chance they were grown in Idaho. It is so stupid to kill the wolves- trophy hunters want to kill a big trophy bull elk- wolves are going to go for smaller or sickly elk.

"Solving a problem" we created for a species, by punishing that species, by killing some of that species, to solve the problem we created for the species ...

Too simplistic. Elk have declined in some areas by 40-50%, and have moved into other areas in at least some part due to predation by wolves, particularly into agricultural areas in northern Idaho and southern Idaho, where it is not uncommon to have depredation hunts in an attempt to ease damages done to those areas. These open agricultural areas are harder for both wolves and hunters to access, which is a boon to elk in these areas but not in the mountains where wolves have had a real impact. Elk management is not a one size fits all proposition and surely not as simple as letting the wolves manage the elk. If elk are so populous in this area then there should be no problem with a hunt.
