Signed - I will get an acknowledgement from Thomas Mulcair's office, a nice letter from Elizabeth May, probably nothing from Justin Trudeau unless it's combined with a PLZ GIVE US MONEY!!! email, and nothing at all from Stephen Harper. My own MP (a really useless Conservative backbencher who didn't even show up to the all-candidates' forum during the last election) doesn't even bother acknowledging emails/letters since I told his secretary I wanted to have replies from my real MP, with his own words, not *her* opinions and platitudes.

I just got an acknowledgement from Thomas Mulcair's office that they received my email. That's just an auto-generated one, and I don't know if there will be any follow-up communication.

Harper will bully his way through Parliament in order to bring this legislation to fruition. Corporations are only interested in profits. Any social responsibility contract is only in tact to the degree that it doesn't impact profits.

Thanks Cher, S&N, But I'm not holding my breath. Harper won't be satisfied until the country is covered in oil and any other toxins which might make him and his rich cronies a few more bucks and make the rest of us sick (if we are lucky and not DEAD!!!) He seems obsessed with destroying this nation, and it's neighbor. He lies, he silences anyone whose opinion contradicts what big oil wants to hear. The man is effectively killing science. I highly recommend the doc "The silence of the labs" it is very enlightening and will leave you stunned.

Signed. But to be honest the US laws are actually little better. The Price-Anderson act, which by the by does require renewal which comes up in 2025, does set a limit on the $$$ the companies can be held responsible for in case of Accidents. They are required to participate in a double tier insurance program that I do not comprehend. Also I think it is the Stuart Act puts 25% of the cost of housing, mortgage and rental payments and other "unmet needs"(what ever the hell that means in legalese) and the Federal Government liable for 75%. And I find it interesting that I can find no US law that states the level the private energy company $$$ liability for clean up. I do know that the US Taxpayer is on the hook for the cost of disposing of their day to day production of radioactive waste such as at Hanford WA, which is at least 20 years behind schedule, $Billions and $Billions over budget has at least one major leak in a tank(probably more) along with a host of other contamination f-ups. I really recommend checking out one of my local TV stations' reporting on the US fiasco at you might want a stiff drink near by.

Nuclear facilities must be maintained or shut down to avoid pollution; if not, those shirking their responsibility should pay for polluting.

Can any Company on earth really pay........ for a nuclear accident.
I, personally think payment should be made in advance........... like a sort of LARGE deposit......??
