Last week, with ALDF support, Chicago passed a landmark ordinance that will ban Chicago pet stores from selling puppies, cats, or bunnies that originate from "puppy mills" (large-scale breeding facilities).

Breeding and caring for animals for profit should have strict rules, enforcement and inspections. They also should have a current license and health certificate furnished at the time of sale. Otherwise it should be banned.

This is wonderful news for Chicago shelters. Now is the time for the rest of the country. Only when puppy mills are closed will we start to see some improvement for shelter and homeless pets. Thank you Cher.

Thumbs Up for Chicago trying to get rid of all puppy mills. Now if the rest of our Country would do it.

I get really angry everyday hearing & reading about abuse, torture, cruelty/neglect and gross puppy mills.

There really needs to be Stricter Laws, when it comes to Puppy Mills, Abuse, Dog Fighting, Cruelty, Neglect, Torture. Instead of attacking it state by state, it needs to be our Nations Laws. We need to make a huge impression on the violators.

Ex: Jail & Loss of Drivers License for 5 yrs. non-license 5 yr. delay in getting a license (first offense) & huge fines 1/2 to courts, 1/2 to humane society & probation, and never be able to own another animal ever. Maybe this will help stop all of this. Any lesser laws will not stop them.

Start writing & emailing your Govenors, Senators, Congress & President. Its time to stop fooling around, and MAKE THIS HAPPEN Make it our Countries Law. Then start Prosecuting these scumbags.

We need more Whistle Blowers reporting Puppy Mills, and any Abuse as written above.

Puppy and kitten mills should all be shut down. It is one thing to be a responsible breeder and they refuse to sell the pups or kittens via a pet store. Some people who fail to responsibly spay their female cats for whatever reason might bring the kittens/pups to a pet store to sell if they can't get enough of their friends to take home a pup or kitten but certainly pet stores should not be obtaining pets to sell from the very cruel puppy/kitten mills.

Dogs and cats are kept in appalling conditions and the offspring are often as ill as the mother.

Close down the puppy and kitty mills and start making those that breed or let their animals breed, responsible for every cat, dog, horse, bunny, etc., that they produce. This includes the backyard breeders. We must make those who produce these animals have to take them back and keep them healthy until they die of old age. They should have to take all the animals back no matter how old or sick they are. The shelters have to do this, so should the people who cause the problem in the first place.
