The state of Idaho has received permission to kill up to 4000 ravens, a bird that is protected by federal law. The justification for this killing is that ravens prey on sage-grouse eggs, a bird which is finally being put onto the endangered list.

The state of Idaho has received permission to kill up to 4,000 ravens, a bird that is protected by federal law. The justification for this killing is that ravens prey on sage-grouse eggs, a bird which is finally being put onto the endangered list. Yet of the 19 reasons for the sage-grouse's declining numbers, predation by other wild life comes in at #12. Why is the highly intelligent raven being singled out for destruction, especially before other causes are addressed? Ravens are among the most intelligent creatures on the planet. Please sign this petition and reach out in other ways to prevent this massive and unncessary destruction.

UPDATE: On April 4, there was news that the state plans to start placing poisoned eggs in three separate areas of the state sometime this spring. The ravens are hard to kill with guns, the article said, because they are so smart. There is still time to stop this if we try.

Noted and signed. Get rid of Ravens, and you allow other predators and insects to move in. The world is like a baby mobile -- move one part, and all the others ALSO move. This is a stupid move that eventually will come back to haunt the states arrogant enough to think they can control Nature.

Such barbarity! What is the #1 reason for the sage grouse decline? Could it be human beings? Wouldn't surprise me! Ravens are #12.

I think it's more likely the sage grouse is at risk because of habitat loss, caused by ever expanding ranches, not because Ravens eat a few eggs. When the ranchers start complaining about being overrun with vermin, maybe they will recognize that killing off the predators is not a great solution.

Idaho politicians don't mess around. If they don't like it they kill it. All I can say is good luck and on my travels west I will drive around the state. Eventually, there won't be any natural wildlife left to see, just the artificially created herds of deer, elk and other creatures that resident killers can hunt.

I know that singling out a state, person, or anything else is wrong - but what the HELL is wrong with Idaho??? Especially Butch Otter! Seems he wants to kill off every animal in the state! We know where he stands as far as wolves are concerned, and other animals too. But now ravens? Ravens are awesome birds, and smarter than many people I know!

So VERY signed!
