A satire science story from NationalReport.net has gone viral after warning readers that solar panels are draining the sun's energy. The most remarkable thing about the story is not its hilarity but rather the fact that so many readers took it seriously

"In truth, clear thinking about science is extremely rare in society today... even among lawmakers, journalists and many members of the medical profession, believe it or not. That's why I continue to call for improved science education in our public education system." ...

Not sure I agree 100%! What we really need to teach children (and adults!) today is to use their brains, analyse, check and think for themselves. Because, while some articles - science & other - may be clever takke-off satirical comments, others are actually intended to mislead, manipulate information provided. .... Test the source(s) ... which may require searching the original source, because people copy & paste (& sometimes edit) ... and so one can't SEE that the original was more neutral, or from a satirical column/ blog ... unless one searches!

But there will always be naÔve people who swallow tall tales and then repeat them as fact, & people who react without stopping to think carefully.

Weird is this a April fools day joke? But is do know solar panels kill hundreds of birds. Flying they see the shiny light and think it is water, and when they get close they get fried from the heat, fall and die

So THIS is why Republicans keep getting elected! I wonder how many people believed Rep. Joe Barton when he implied that wind was a finite resource, and said that harnessing it would "slow the winds down" which would "cause the temperature to go up."?

I dont think these people are really stupid but rather lazy. These people are the ones who would rather watch the so called reality shows than to take the time to watch a science show and learn what is real!!

I couldn't help a hardy laugh when I first read this, but then I wanted to cry at the ignorance of these morons. Did they never go to school, even grade school? The result of some Home Schooling? These adults are that stupid? Education needs to be Improved, not cut in this country. Well, We Can't Fix Stupid, but We CAN VOTE Them Out! We need smart Congressmen to fix all the problems caused already by the Bush Gang. The President cannot do it all alone.

Actually, the way the article was written does make it sound like right-wing propaganda.

Really-this is funny and pathetic t the same time. It is yet more testimony to the ignorance of too many of the supposed most intelligent species on the planet (not an opinion I hold).

I have not read this regarding solar panels. BUT...I have read reports regarding solar panels possibly causing holes in the ozone. Apparently, it's possible the reflection of the panels back at the atmosphere can cause holes similar to using a magnifying glass to burn paper. Can it happen? I'm unsure. It does seem plausible. Much in the sense of solar panels draining energy.
I'm guessing more studies need to be done. We won't know we're destroying the planet until it's gone. Then, too late.
