Act now! Join us in asking that an Environmental Impact Statement be developed for the Fire Island to Moriches Inlet stabilization plan, which will significantly impact habitat for our priority shorebirds.

S&N. Thanks, Cher! I fell in love with piping plovers at Horseneck Beach, also on Long Island Sound. I call them "tickle birds" or "giggle birds" b/c of the way they feed where sand meets shore, running in and out of the waves. Visited in August a couple years back, a birthday indulgence. In a totally Bedazzled part of my mind, I hold an image of hundreds of piping plovers dancing with hundreds of Monarch Butterflies on a late afternoon sea breeze, beneath an incredibly blue sky! These lovely creatures deserve protection!

The shore birds, including Plovers, need and should have a protected environment.

I don't know the plovers on LI, but I know the FL ones and I LOVE them!

We have Pipers in N. J., too, and try to protect them. Some Monmouth County Park Dep't volunteers guard the nesting areas.
