The Canadian boreal forest is part of an ancient forest that circles the planet like a green crown and sustains a rich diversity of life.

Thank you for writing to the provinces asking them to protect the boreal forest.
More of us are calling on provincial and territorial governments to put in place measures to protect critical habitat for boreal caribou with the free, prior, and informed consent of First Nations and to stop the expansion of industrial activities in Canada. The greater its range, the greater the impact.

From their page.
"The Canadian boreal forest is part of an ancient forest that circles the planet like a green crown and sustains a rich diversity of life.

Globally, this ecosystem stores more carbon in its trees and soils than all the tropical rainforests.

But continued unsustainable logging and industrial development of the boreal threatens the lands of Indigenous Peoples, survival of many boreal species as well as the long-term health of this ecosystem.

Among all the species threatened by this loss of habitat, the Canadian woodland caribou is the most vulnerable. They need large expanses of intact forest to survive.

In October 2012, Canada’s provinces and territories responded to the crisis by committing to protect woodland caribou from extinction in the boreal forest. But after 5 years, they failed to deliver plans that would enforce this protection.

Tell provincial governments to keep their promises to protect woodland caribou and the boreal forest, and respect Indigenous Rights."
