People have to be aware and educated about how a cat colony can get out of hand, rescue volunteer says

The problem would not exist if they were spayed & neutered at the start!!
Glad Harley did the right thing & contacted a shelter for help!

This situation happened because people dumped cats in a place where they figured where they would be fine. Or they dumped them and just didn't care."
The takeaway from it, said Furge, is people need to spay and neuter their pets.

There are many vets that give a major discount to people bringing in strays to be neutered/spayed. If a cat comes to our farm and hangs around for a few days, we pop it in a carrier and take it to a vet. If it doesn't have a microchip we pay to have it spayed/neutered. We have done it twice in 2 years. Both cats eventually wandered off, hopefully back to their rightful family. Tampering with other people's property, you ask. Too bad. It's irresponsible to let your cat wander freely impregnating or getting impregnated. In our case, both were Tom's so we feel we prevented hundreds of potential unwanted kittens from being born.

If only the costs of spaying would come down, more cats and dogs would be done.
