Good, now off to trial with them, then when found guilty.............

What did they used to say in old western movies?

"You'll get a fair trial and a nice hanging"

Come on people. We shouldn't be hateful of these people. There is a flaw in the system that needs to be addressed. Ignorant, and fearful people take advantage of flaws in the system, and end up doing illegal acts. The real healing, and rectification is in fixing the system, not in punishing people. Especially important for all Americans to stop promoting punishment, and to start changing the system around us.
There is all too much waste, and confusion in the states, and we're often the first to dole out punishment. Well, its US who are asking for more product, more industry, more wood, etc. We are essentially behind these acts! So spare the people involved. Sure educate them, and give a little slap on the wrist I suppose, but only when we change our system and our needs as Americans will we be bringing justice to this very issue of resource abuse.
Sincerely,
Zac

We need to start paying the brazilian gov't to preserve our rainforest, until everyone realizes that cutting it down is killing us slowly. I guess policing and stopping these people from cutting it down temporarily is a start for now, but im with Zach, we need to change our ways to see REAL results. We are all responsible for this destruction by buying their products, etc. especially here in the USA. Thx Cher!

I hardly buy anything anymore. When I do buy something, I shop at thrift stores and resale shops as much as possible. I have always fixed things instead of just throwing them out. I stay aware of the type of things I buy and I recylce tons of stuff including from my neighbor's garbage.

I understand the idea of education and all that obviously, but once the forests are gone...they are gone. Destroying forests and poaching animals and dumping toxic waste illegally and a million other things can always be excused by "it was just my job" and other statements like that.

In my opinion we have to attack the problem from all angles, arrest people cutting it down and also get people to not buy it and get stores to not sell it and on and on.

I try to educate people and stores and I have for years and it's not stopping it. I'm not just saying punish them because I don't like it or I don't understand the reasons for it, I'm saying punish them because it's one of the tools we can use to try to save what is left.

Cut off the supply and cut off the demand.

We don't have the luxury of time here.

Rainforests used to cover 14% of the Earth.

Now it's only 6%.

According to rain-tree.com

We are losing 137 plant, animal and insect species every DAY.

1 and 1/2 acres every SECOND.

40 years and it will ALL be gone.

The cures for cancer and other diseases might have been there and are now gone.

I'm a consumer of things I know. But it's not me buying exotic hardwood floors or kitchen cabinets. I'm not the one buying a McMansion (one of those houses that's way too big for the family that uses way too much resources to build and maintain and heat and cool). I don't spray my yard nor do I water it. I recycle. I don't use a clothes dryer. I don't use a dishwasher. I use VERY little electricity. I don't watch tv. I'm not a saint, but I'm not nearly as big a part of the problem as the majority of people in this country, it's these mindless consumers and the people supplying them with their stuff.

Both parts of that equation must stop.

Education is the answer. We have to teach everyone how not to destroy the planet.
