Noam Chomsky: Unexceptional Americans: Why We Can't See the Trees or the Forest The Torture Memos and Historical Amnesia By Noa

The torture memos released by the White House elicited shock, indignation, and surprise. The shock and indignation are understandable. The surprise, less so. For one thing, even without inquiry, it was reasonable to suppose that Guantanamo was a torture

I think we should all be aware of how politics are taking shape.... look what I found....

TEHRAN, Iran – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran test-fired a new advanced missile Wednesday with a range of about 1,200 miles, far enough to strike Israel, southeastern Europe and U.S. bases in the Middle East.

Noam Homski at his best: described Persident Reagan as "savage murderer and torturer"... Reagan won the Cold War, he deserves a better description than provided by high-ego communists.

Reagan won Nothing, WE won the Cold War by subverting communist cultures. If we would just drop TV's & satellite recievers (that only pick up American programs) in all countries we want to control - it would be Much Cheaper & safer than bombs!;)

Locan, talk to people from former Communist block and ask them what THEY think about Reagan.

And then ask them what THEY think about Communist propagandist Homski and his "creative" ideas, if they even bothered to remember his name, for strange reasons so popular here.

Josh.

Yvonne, in many dictatorships, including Communist Russia, the police would confiscate all those TC receivers and punish those who tried to take it. Reagan exhausted Russia's economy by the military race, big time.

Yvonne said, "If we would just drop TV's & satellite recievers (that only pick up American programs) in all countries we want to control - it would be Much Cheaper & safer than bombs!;)"

That's probably a joke. But just a reminder to my fellow Americans: the rest of the world doesn't want to be "controlled." Not by the USA, China, Russia, Islam, the catholic Church or any other hierarchy that sees its culture as above & beyond anyone else's. The difficult thing in human relations is how to coexist (multi-exist?) by maintaining independence without riding roughshod over others.

BTW, torture will only make bad situations worse.

"Land of the free , home of the brave" yeah right only a 5 year old would believe that ....Democracy ?? more like Deception or fairy tale ... It`is not a surprise that the american people have been brainwashed into believing that the U.S is the most righteous , democratic , just country in the world . Fortunately there`s still people like Chomsky that know better and that are not afraid to expose the dark side of their history.

These american politicians are like the "terrorists" they fight only instead of attacking other countries in the name of god , they have done it in the name of "freedom" , "democracy " "national security" ...you name it !

So yeah America is a lie , a big fat lie !! ... oh and the greatest hipocrite ever !!

Norm Chomsky is one of a diminishing breed. You can just about take what he says to the bank but those kind are getting few and far between.

Robert, there are plenty of quys like Homski, trying to impress people with their "original" thinking. It is much easier to show originality in critics, than by doing something constructive. I think Homski caused lots of grief to Humanity, starting with Red Khmeres defence.

I don't know any bank who will take his words seriously and will give sometheng for them. Unless it's some Communist bank run by Communist government.

Amen Locan!:)
Talking in generalities is kind of useless anyway. Communists, Americans, etc. People are individuals.. oh, I forgot RepubliCONs, who seem to all spout the same talking points.. never mind!;)
I was only half-way joking before - c'mon, there was a great black-market in Russia for all things American! Reagan & Bu$h $r were Flabbergasted when the Wall fell - so how great were they? You can't say they won when they weren't even Aware of the Score! We won by Default - and it was bound to happen. Just like the attitudes of the American people are leaning left right now - being stressed for tooooo long, we're Finally fighting back by changing what we Can, even if that's Only Our Attitudes. More people every day are seeing Gay Marriage as a civil Right, Torture as Always Wrong, and Hate Speech as Criminal - though none of them watch Fox News..;)

"there are plenty of quys like Homski, trying to impress people"

Thanks for the laugh Josh :) A little jealous of Chomsky, aren't you? :P How understandable... you sure can't impress anyone!

Trying to get the attention away from him, once again? well good luck.... because some people will always be great humans, while others... will only remain little trolls.

A day without Chomsky is a day without thought. Agree or disagree with him. So we killed the Commie Red economy. How's ours looking? Our economy died in the USA back in 1973. We are the worlds leading experts at funny bookkeeping and great weapon systems!!!!!! Who Would Jesus Torture Today?

Yvonne, do you know that in Communist Russia even simple copying machines were not avaialble to the general population, with KGB approved everything to be copied? Black Market would NEVER have anything political, only commercial, spies were all over. Read what people struggled through to smuggle simple books criticising Communism. Communism was not a joke, it was pure evil and a tragedy,

Brigitte, me "A little jealous of Chomsky, aren't you?" ? There is nothing simpler for me to gain his popularity: I have Holocaust survivors in my family too, I am world-wide known specialist in my area and should I start criticizing Capitalism, US and Israel, I will also get lots of cash from symphatizers from Union Heads, Student Untions, Arab press, etc - who will readily spend Unions' money on promoting their political views. Simple and reliable, just look for political affiliation of people running unions and see how much cash they spend on politics.

Robert, I don't need someone Homski to think for me. I think well without him, and consider many of his actions detrimental to humanity. If you agree that the World became a better place without Russian Communism, you have to praise Reagan.

Jesus was not known for torturing.

So the People got Tired of Communism & being Spied on & the KGB deciding for them - you can't help people who won't help themselves, oh wait - They DID!;) Yet Reagan/Bu$h $r. ignored them & let the Russian Mafia take over much of the country!.. "Communism was not a joke, it was pure evil and a tragedy." Bu$h-League policies & politics were a joke, AND they were Pure Evil & a tragedy.

Yes, but Jesus' followers are known world wide for torture. Dr. Chomsky does not do my thinking for me.I agree with some of his thoughts and disagree with others."... you have to praise Reagan "? Is that a command? How hierarchical of you! What advertising company sold you on that idea? United States of Amnesia; a wonderful concept by Gore Vidal. It fits the political short term memory of America. We treat politics as a team sport rather than a life and death struggle.Onward Christian Torturers! If you really understood The Reagan/Bush 41 Years you would know Gitmo was just an extension of our south America policy from those years. Our roots are deep in torture.Deep within our major religions.Wrap it in the flag and pray over it and everything be fine and dandy!!!! Fear is wonderful. No better way to control people.

Oh yes, trollish one, Chomsky is an attention getting media whore! LOLOL!! Chomsky is a dissident; the ones you listen to when you want to know what's really happening in the world. (Just so happens you have to crack a book or scholarly journal to read him, which explains your ignorance here). And as Howard Zinn said, there is no higher form of "patriotism" than to be a dissident, and to care for the character of one's country; not simply its "image." So yeah, I'm totally hot for Chomsky! (and Finkelstein, Said, Zinn, Russell, Vidal, A. Roy, . . . compassionate, caring, dissident, scholarly, great minds... most attractive in my book).

And re: his criticism of America, he lives here; is a citizen. It doesn't take any moral integrity to get all foamy-mouthed about the crimes of our avowed enemies; that's quite simple to do. It takes some "moral integrity," as he puts it, to examine the crimes of one's own country. It's called "being a grown-up." I can think of two very child-like nations right now, in fact. ***poors rest of troll food on ground***

Mr Chomskies a Commy ? I take it commy is an insult in your book Josh ?Is that because its different, scary therefore a threat?. Well josh im sorry to advise on this, but just before you shut your eyes, they come, its true, the commies come out from under you bed and wisper terrible things to your susceptable sleeping mind. Things like vote for Obama or lets talk to Iran and the worst, oh by far the worst is - Two State Solution.i wonder how you sleep with those fears.
