Around a week before the vote, some 50,000 Islamists marched through the provincial capital, Assiut, chanting that Egypt will be "Islamic, Islamic, despite the Christians." At their head rode several bearded men on horseback with swords in scabbards on their hips, evoking images of early Muslims conquering Christian Egypt in the 7th Century.

They made sure to go through mainly Christian districts of the city, where residents, fearing attacks, shuttered down their stores and stayed in their homes, witnesses said.

The day of the voting itself on Saturday, Christian voting was minimal - as low as seven percent in some areas, according to church officials. Some of those who did try to head to polling stations in some villages were pelted by stones, forcing them to turn back without casting ballots, Christian activists and residents told The Associated Press this week.

The Islamist president Morsi said before he was elected that he wanted a new Islamic conquest of Egypt and that the Coptic Christians (the real Egyptians, conquered by invading Muslims and oppressed by them for centuries) would have to convert or leave and they have been fleeing by the thousands.

Where is the outrage in the western media and from Obama and other western leaders? Silence and hypocrisy. You certainly don't read about this on Care2!

Even before the Muslim Brotherhood gained power in Egypt the Christians have been persecuted for centuries and have had limited rights in their own land, but now with the Orthodox Muslims in control their future looks very bleak indeed. Such a shame.

It's funny how Muslims are always whining about what victims they are when it is Islam that is persecuting non-Muslims the world over. And so many dimwits in the West fall for their broken wing act without doing any research or thinking.

Islam has been at war with the world since Mohammed invaded Medina with his thugs and forced everyone to convert to his new amalgam of a 'religion'. They have taken over most of their occupied lands by force and now are trying to conquer the West once and for all by infiltration, lies, deception and threats. Sadly, it is working well.

Egypt, alond with all of the other Muslim controlled countries in the Middle East, forced around 1 million Jews out making them refugees with no right of return and no compensation. I have yet to hear any of the anti-Semites condemn this.

Now, Egypt is stepping up its attacks on Christians which have continued for centuries. They force them to live on the rubbish heap in Cairo, they kill anyone because they can, rape & abuse little girls and forcibly convert & marry them. They are now being beaten and arrested for being Christian. Why does no-one on care2 speak out? None of the "journalists" mention it. Why is being a Christian of so much less value than a Muslim? These are terrible human rights abuses that no-one wants to talk about and the anti-Semites ignore preferring to attack Israel, like the UN. It is sad that no-one recognises a true abuse and attempt at genocide.

What democracy? America and Europe should withdraw all support and financial aid to these countries immediately. Christians in their own neighborhoods during the Arab Spring were evicted; homes torched and Christians crucified. How long before they are forceably converted or put to death in "god's" name?

THIS should be the official description of the most horrid, repressive and violent religions ever to exist on the face of the planet. It is how they deal with EVERYTHING with which they disagree. Not discourse, bloodshed. They are a cancer of the human species, spreading like an uncontrolled plague bringing with them horror and death wherever they go. It is nearly impossible to read anything describing any Islamic gathering that does not include the word, enraged. They spend their entire lives enraged with the rest of the world. The only good thing about that is that their hatred will consume them faster than a normal lifespan. We may not be at war with Islam, but they are with us. How come all this persecution of the Christians in Egypt is not in our world news Frightened as per usual are they of upsetting the Muslims the world condoned the government that took over now they probably realise what a stupid thing it was to do One should know with a Muslim government its going to mean trouble No peace and love in the islamic faith what i can see Whats the world going to do now Nothing i expect as too frightened of getting involved so the people will be no better off than they were before
