Islamist extremists are now radicalizing Canadians at “a large number of venues,” according to a secret intelligence report released to the National Post under the Access to Information Act.

While mosques with hardline imams are often singled out for spreading violent Islamist ideology, the study found that radicalization has been taking place at a much longer list of locales.

“Radicalization is not limited to religious centres,” says the Canadian Security Intelligence Service report, titled Venues of Sunni Islamist Radicalization in Canada.

The heavily censored report identifies the role of prisons, the Internet and foreign travel in turning some Canadians into extremists who wage or support violence. But it also points a finger at the family home.

“Parents have radicalized children,” reads the Intelligence Assessment, “husbands have radicalized wives (and some wives have radicalized or supported their husbands) … and siblings have radicalized each other,” it says.

“As this assessment has demonstrated, a large number of venues have been, and continue to be used to further Islamist extremist ideology. … As radicalization is usually a social process, it can occur wherever humans interact, in the real world or virtual ones,” it says.

Since al-Qaeda’s attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, an increasing number of Canadians have become lured into Islamist extremism, an intolerant, anti-democratic and virulently anti-Western worldview that preaches that violence against non-Muslims is a religious duty and a path to paradise.

Several Canadian extremists have travelled abroad to countries such as Pakistan and Somalia with the intention of engaging in what they call jihad, while others have plotted mass casualty attacks in Canada, although none has succeeded.

'This report apparently focuses on where Muslims are "radicalized," rather than on the much more important question of how -- probably because investigating the latter would take Canadian authorities straight into the Qur'an and Sunnah, which is the one place they don't want to go. Jihadists make recruits among peaceful Muslims by claiming that they are the exponents of authentic Islam, and making their case from core Islamic texts. The "moderates" have never mounted any effective rejoinder to this appeal. But to admit this would be to contradict central elements of Canadian immigration policy and the entire multiculturalist enterprise. And so we get this report on where, but never ever discuss the really important questions.'

They don't mention the role of Saudi oil billions being spent around the world to fund this radicalization. Here in Spain a few months ago the Saudis and Moroccans were caught funneling millions into the mosques here to teach hatred of the West, teaching Muslims to not assimilate or to participate in Spanish 'decadent' society etc. The Saudis have spent over $80billion USD in getting Orthodox Islam taught in mosques and madrassas with its hatred of all non-Muslims and calls to 'kill unbelievers wherever you find them' (Qur'an 9:5)

And western countries have been so cowed by these hate mongers that they are afraid to even say the "I" or "M" words, which only aids the Saudis in their quest to destroy us all and impose barbaric Islamic law on the whole world.

What will it take for western governments to wake up and take action against this growing threat? They almost waited too long to stop Hitler and his Nazis with the same appeasement. It didn't work then and it won't work with Orthodox Islam.

I agree, Jay. The Saudis are behind with bankrolling an enormous amount of radicalization, including revisionist textbooks for school age children in public schools. The day can't come soon enough that Saudi oil runs out, along with that of other Arab countries along with Iran, whose evil influences is causing most of the misery in the world.

These "imams", for which there is NO qualification but saying you are one, are among the most dangerous people on earth today. They spread their poisonous doctrines wherever they go, wherever they become a large minority, violence follows. I think it is time we stop saying we aren't at war with Islam, because Islam is most certainly at war with us. Everywhere.

Noted, tweeted, shared, read, tweeted, shared and terrified. If this continues, there will be a war, and in every country, there will be a backlash against Muslims. It's difficult to claim innocence if you teach hate.

This is a very bad development. Saudi oil billions spent on indoctrination of Islamist extremism and superiority is always a danger, and especially in a tolerant and pluralistic society.

Nancy, this is of concern to anybody with a claim to intelligence (OK, I know that leaves out a lot of the population) and it is also the attitude. There are dhimmis on this board, such as Margaret Mayer, currently Free Gaza, who turn up on a a news story, such as

Muslims Against Hamas

and still cannot bring herself to criticise Muslim atrocities. It is this kind of attitude that allows it to continue. Nor are the abuses committed against Palestinians in other Arab controlled countries, such as by the "Resistance" - actually the Muslim Brotherhood, who are killing both them and the Christians. I suppose that they are not regarded as human by such people so don't count.

The choice or words often is indicative of bigotry. e.g "Imam for which there is NO qualification but saying you are one." This could be said of the majority of Fundamentalist and Evangelical Christian Preachers in the U S A.
Even where they have attended some sort of college these institutions are often themselves of dubious academic worth.

Then there are the others who blindly accuse ALL Muslims of being either supporters of, or actually being involved as "Terrorists" in the name of Islam. Whilst the same people would no doubt be actively supporting American Troops terrorising people in Eastern Nations. If you dare try to disengage Terrorism as a term to substitute it for "War" or any euphemism to justify killing others I remind you "War IS Terrorism. If you don't agree then to war you have never been." I remind you of Bush's use of the word "Crusade" not spoken lightly and the overwhelmingly Fundamentalist Christian make up of the troops involved, a large proportion being semi literate work starved financially deprived members of the affluent American Society.

This is no Apologist for the followers of Islam but a condemnation of hypocrisy which applies to many followers of all religions, when it suits them, As a lifelong atheist . I see Muslims, Christians, and the rest as being pretty similar. The believers in the preachings of Mohammed, Christ, Moses, Abraham ,Krishna, Sun Gods, and Moon Devils are to, my mind, people to be pitied. Generally it is of no concern to me but it becomes important when, for any reason, they try to impose their childish notions of their particular God's unprovable existence on others, then further try to justify repression and killing, by any means, to further their political or religious agendas by quoting passages from Bible, Koran, or Bhavad Gita, written by semi literates thousands of years ago.It is time people not only learned to think but to think clearly, and do so without the influence of prior beliefs brainwashed from their respective cradles. NOBODY is born a believer, no matter what the faith of their parents, you can only learn it from those that came before. Just as much of the violence is learned in the world today, religious or not.

After reading this, as well as the story last week about Islamists infiltrating the Mexican
drug cartels, I rarely see any mention of "Wahabi", the radical offshoot that came into
being in the 1700s before the US came into existence. It is largely their doing that Islam
has been dragged centuries back and has been "occupied" by ever increasing
numbers of pro-violence converts. I wish every reader would look up this movement and
name the radicals for what they are: "Wahabists". WE must not smear and discount the
vast numbers of reasonable Muslims who have not been absorbed into that movement.
They have long moved beyond the early simplistic doctrines of violence, just as
Christians have. Western Fundamentalism/Dominionism is a rough counterpart to
Wahabi, and both are a serious danger to current enlighted and gentled faiths. The
following appears to be a fairly temperate synopsis of the history: (PLEASE READ.)
Are they infiltrating Canada and the US as a "Pincer" strategy to threaten the US? We must seek and honor the support of all reasonable forward looking Muslims everywhere!

Why does the west allow these people to immigrate to our countries? All these people want to do is destroy us and we're holding the door open for them.

BG Callahan,

While it's true the Saudi brand of Wahabism has been underwritten, spread and responsible for a considerable amount of violence, especially because they have the money to do it, Islamic violence by NO means started with the Wahabis.

The use of violence against non-Muslims lies at the very Core of Islam, since it's inception and embodied by Muhammad, enshrined in Sharia, the Quran, and the Hadiths.

Besides, a quick reading of the article that was the basis for this C2 post clearly shows that Islamization of this area and many others in Central and South America is being done by Hezbollah, which is funded by Iran, which are both SHIA, not Sunni, as are the Saudis. Shia and Sunni followers of Islam have been enemies since nearly the inception of Islam 1600 years ago, and this continued hatred is in great part responsible for much of the Muslim-on-Muslim violence and death going on today.

Meanwhile, it’s important to know/remember that the peaceful parts of the Quran were written while Muhammad was in his earliest and weakest period, and after that, when Muhammad had grown powerful, the peaceful sayings of the Quran were replaced by the Doctrine of Abrogation, has left largely the violent verses of Islam and their physical manifestations that we are all to acquainted with today.

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule. Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding. Muslims who do not join the fight are called 'hypocrites' and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.

Unlike nearly all of the Old Testament verses of violence, the verses of violence in the Quran are mostly open-ended, meaning that they are not restrained by the historical context of the surrounding text. They are part of the eternal, unchanging word of Allah, and just as relevant or subjective as anything else in the Quran.

Most of today's Muslims exercise a personal choice to interpret their holy book's many calls to violence according to what their own moral preconceptions find justificable. Apologists cater to their preferences with tenuous arguments that gloss over historical fact and generally do not stand up to scrutiny. Still, it is important to note that the problem is not bad people, but bad ideology.

Unfortunately, there are very few verses of tolerance and peace to abrogate or even balance out the many that call for nonbelievers to be fought and subdued until they either accept humiliation, convert to Islam, or are killed. Muhammad's own martial legacy - and that of his companions - along with the remarkable stress on violence found in the Quran have produced a trail of blood and tears across world history.

The Quran:

Quran (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]... but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah." The historical context of this passage is not defensive warfare, since Muhammad and his Muslims had just relocated to Medina and were not under attack by their Meccan adversaries. In fact, the verses urge offensive warfare, in that Muslims are to drive Meccans out of their own city (which they later did). The use of the word "persecution" by some Muslim translators is thus disingenuous (the actual Muslim words for persecution - "idtihad" - and oppression - a variation of "z-l-m" - do not appear in the verse). The actual Arabic comes from "fitna" which can mean disbelief, or the disorder that results from unbelief or temptation. Taken as a whole, the context makes clear that violence is being authorized until "religion is for Allah" - ie. unbelievers desist in their unbelief.

Quran (2:244) - "Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all things."

Quran (2:216) - "Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not." Not only does this verse establish that violence can be virtuous, but it also contradicts the myth that fighting is intended only in self-defense, since the audience was obviously not under attack at the time. From the Hadith, we know that this verse was narrated at a time that Muhammad was actually trying to motivate his people into raiding merchant caravans for loot.

Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help."

Quran (3:151) - "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority". This speaks directly of polytheists, yet it also includes Christians, since they believe in the Trinity (ie. what Muhammad incorrectly believed to be 'joining companions to Allah').

Quran (4:74) - "Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward." The martyrs of Islam are unlike the early Christians, led meekly to the slaughter. These Muslims are killed in battle, as they attempt to inflict death and destruction for the cause of Allah. Here is the theological basis for today's suicide bombers.

Quran (4:76) - "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah…"

Quran (4:89) - "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks."

There is much, more, if you'd like to know.

Tom Edgar,

A few comments if I may.

I can readily agree that there are far too many hypocrites in just about every religion.

I’d just like to say that some of the biggest murderers in recent history were atheists – Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot left hundreds of millions dead in just this past century. The most historically accurate attributions to Hitler indicate that, in spite of his apparent Christian identity he shamelessly used to appeal to his Christian audiences, Hitler despised Christianity, called it a flabby little religion, and wished that the German people could have converted to Islam as the German temperament was more suited to the German personality.

You say, “As a lifelong atheist . I see Muslims, Christians, and the rest as being pretty similar.”

I can only say that I think it’s crucial to look a closer.

Undoubtedly, there are many things going on in the world that are vying for our attention, and it’s impossible to pay attention to most of it. Yet, there are many indicators in the mainstream Western media that Islam is a growing menace, not only in Islamic countries with Muslim majorities, but in the West and the Far East as well. Far more is not covered by the mainstream press in the West that shows that with petrodollar backing from rich Arab oil states as well as Iran, there is a concerted effort worldwide to spread Islam to its ultimate desired destination, that of the establishment of the Caliphate and Sharia across the entire globe. And Islamic terrorism is a symptom of this endeavor, also known as Dar al (k)Harb, or the House of War.

To say that the Muslims and the Christians… are pretty similar reveals a deep unfamiliarity with the realities of violent Islamic expansionism, after having been suppressed somewhat for a couple of hundred years, as the West grew militarily, technologically, and in other ways, superior to Islam and forced it back into a kind of humiliated hibernation.

I would venture to say that modern Christianity, in terms of it forcing itself upon others is virtually the opposite of Islam.

Did you know, for instance, that more people are killed EACH year than in all 350 years of the Spanish Inquisition combined (

To give you an idea of what I mean, I will share here the stats from that show Islamic terrorism in just the past 30 (thirty) DAYS. And after you review these, I’d like to ask you if you can come up with ANYTHING like this from Christianity or pretty much any other religion. And ask yourself honestly, if equating the ongoing catastrophic cataclysm of Islamic violence and conquest really looks anything like the “other” religions out there.

Most Muslims are not fundamentalists just as most Christians are not fundamentalists. One commenter mentioned the more extremist branch, the "Wahabi" which certainly bears looking into. Fundamentalists are often very extreme, inciting others and trying to spread fundamentalist principles which many Muslims, Christians and other religions don't subscribe to. It is the fundamentalist element that we have to worry about.

Dale, I 100% agree with you.

We need to focus on fundamentalist Islamists, as they commit the vast majority of terrorist acts worldwide, about 91% of them. We have to protect moderate Muslims against their this violent bunch, and ensure that their voice is heard. So far, the voice coming from organized Muslim bodies too often is the voice of extremists.

Just recently, several Muslim organizations in the States lost charitable status due to their link to terror.

Political correctness is a bad adviser in times of terror and death the bad guys can cause.

The world will be moving backward as these rejects from the past take over our minds and our lands.
Why are we allowing them to take over?

Sometimes I wonder what attracts young western minds to extreme islamists organisations? Curiously enough its mostly young men who are recruited, is it I wonder their romanticism to play with guns? These mullahs thrive in a democratic environment biting the hand that feeds them so as to speak. I despair at the political correctness of governments to allow these organisation under various guises to flourish, until some major mishap happens!

As long as these loosers kill each other I couldn't care less about Islam. Like any dictatorship in the past they resolve to murder to cling to power. They invade our countries crying assylum and lawyers bend over backwards for them, for $$$ naturally. Once they are in, they want medival sharia law. Our governments are stupid to listen to so called do-gooders who are our worst enemies to help let all these under cover terrorists in. Now let us see what this sitiuation will turn into in some years!?!?
