A Saudi cleric has called for baby girls to wear burqas to avoid getting raped.

Al Arabiya news reported Sunday that Sheik Abdulla Daoud had said on al-Majd TV mid last-year that wearing the veil will help protect babies.

Daoud told al-Majd TV that babies were being molested in Saudi Arabia, citing unnamed medical and security sources.

The video, which surfaced on social media recently, sparked outrage and debate on Twitter from fellow Saudis.

Some tweets called for Daoud to be held accountable for his comments because it breaches individual privacy.

"Fatwa on Burkas for baby girls r disturbing! Now the baby victims are blamed for men’s crimes. Allah help us stop the ignorance, stupidity," tweeted Masleeza Othman.

Othman later tweeted: "What about fatwa on those who abuse, molested and sexually assaulted or harassed the babies, children. They aren't supposed to even live!!"

Senior Islamic officers have also criticized Daoud's comments.

Sheikh Mohammad al-Jjzlana, a former judge at the Saudi Board of Grievances, said that Daoud's fatwa made Islam and Sharia law look bad, Al Arabiya reported.

There is nothing in Islam that requires baby girls to wear burqas.

The attention on Daoud's comments comes after the Fayhan al-Ghamdi verdict, the Digital Journal reports. Online activists are calling on the Saudi kingdom's rulers to impose harsher punishments on child abusers after reports surfaced that a prominent preacher, al-Ghamdi, received a light sentencing after confessing to raping and beating his 5-year-old daughter to death.

Under Saudi Arabia's current Islamic law, a father cannot be executed for murdering his children or his wife.

According to the Digital Journal, some people agree that sexual assault against young girls in Saudi Arabia are on the rise. It has been reported that the kingdom plans to launch a 24-hour hotline where violence against children can be reported.

This is indeed insane! Why would a burka protect a baby from rape? Clearly any sense of decency has long since departed from anyone who would contemplate such a ( I can't think of a word strong enough) horrendous act. The logic of suggesting a baby needs to wear a particular item of clothing to protect them from torment is completely twisted. How about teaching respect? How about strong punishment for those who harm? How about equal rights for women and children?

This is disgusting, but don't blame the guy who made the fatwa, he's just responding to an epidemic of baby and child rapes. For the record, last Ramadan a woman in Egypt wearing a full burka got gang-rape by her Muslim brethren. I'd throw the boy babies into burkas as well, not that it helps, but boys are fair game too. Nor would I hold my breath for the Saudi royals to crack down on pedophilia, because they are well known to be into that themselves. On the plus side, Reliance of the Traveller states that legally (under shari'a) an infant can't be stoned or otherwise punished for adultery if they are raped. That starts when girls are a few years older.

The simplest solution I can see is just castrate all Muslim males. If they are so perverse that they feel sexually aroused looking at an infant, it's the only solution. We in the West know molesters can't be reformed. You can't lock all of them up, but eunuchs aren't going to go around raping anything.

Animals are also frequent victims. A Muslim immigrant in Spain repeatedly raped a horse, which finally resulted in the horse's death.

I agree with you. The problem is that this is not confined to Saudi Arabia. This is an issue (amongst others) that spans most of the Islamic world, because according to Islam, it is PERMISSIBLE for a man to derive sexual pleasure from babies in the form of fondling baby girls' genitals, kissing, and even taking his penis and rubbing it between the baby's thighs.

One would think who could even make this stuff up. It was news to me, too. Rob&Jay and Carola, do a good job (above) documenting this Islamic religious basis for this allowance.

In this and so many other ways, Islam is not like Christianity and Judaism. It is a very pathological ideology.

Sheik Abdulla Daoud is simply a sick symptom of a sick system. It seems that Islam is always saying how it is about peace, love and respect for women, yet women are oppressed with onerous laws designed to 'protect and honor' them. That is pure garbage. If the animals in these countries kept their dicks in their dresses/robes and stopped preying on females there would be no need for 'protective' laws. The truth is that the laws are meant to keep women powerless and under the absolute control of the sperm dispensers. It is this mindset that makes the Taliban possible, if not inevitable.

Put a baby in a burka and lock her up to protect her from her own father, brothers, cousins, uncles - that is about ninety relatives that a woman has to fear throughout her life.
