For the first time since fighting broke out in neighboring Syria, seven Syrian residents were brought into Israel for medical treatment. Officials at Ziv Medical Center in Safed said today that the seven were in stable condition.

IDF soldiers serving along the Israel-Syrian border first noticed the victims early yesterday afternoon. The Israeli soldiers carried them across the border into Israel to treat them in First Aid.

“An IDF force administered medical care to the wounded men near the border fence and they were taken for further treatment,” read an IDF Spokesperson’s statement.

Ziv Medical Center director Dr. Oscar Ambon said the Syrians suffered wounds to their limbs, stomach and internal injuries. Ambon said one of the wounded is still in critical condition and must undergo a second surgery. He said the other six are in moderate but stable condition – and some of them may require additional operations.

The IDF said its policy does not allow any breach of the border fence, “with the exception of special humanitarian cases.”

Reports today said it remained unclear whether the seven were rebels who took part in the battles or innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.

I can see how Israelis can be perceived as heartless murderers.

Although Syria considers Israel its enemy and has launched numerous attacks on its Israeli neighbors, one might think that Israelis would stand by and simply watch the toll of killed and injured rise. More than 70,000 Syrians have been killed and many more injured, yet Israel with its humanitarian focus, to the point of treating its enemy, has taken in seven injured Syrians and given them medical treatment to save their lives.

This is unparalleled in the Middle East, where Arabs kill Arabs, Sunnis kill Shia, Sunnis and Shia kill Christians. Israel is an amazing tiny country, whose efforts to help humankind far outweigh their small population and extremely vulnerable population.

As more than 70,000 Syrians have been killed, and many more have been injured from the brutal battle waged within its borders, Israel

Just what I'd expect Israel to do. Can't imagine Syria helping injured Israelis under any circumstances.

It would be a wonder if the treated Syrians are actually grateful to the Israelis. You never know with these guys.

No, Stan, it is very hard to imagine Syria doing the same for any Israelis - and the Syrian Saudi-backed rebels would be even less likely to offer any humanitarian help.

Nice thought Patricia M, but don't hold your breath. Remember the Palestinian woman whose life was saved by Israeli doctors who then came back for a checkup strapped up with a suicide bomb to destroy the hospital and staff who had saved her miserable, hateful life. In return she attempted to destroy all of their lives. Hard to even contemplate such hateful, primitive, barbaric tribalism.

This is the difference between how a civilized country and its people behave, like Israel, and the uncivilized black holes of hate and ignorance that surround it. If Israel and Jerusalem were to fall into the hands of the Muslims all the lights would go out in that little country that gives the world so much in scientific and medical advancements. And with Obama, and his enthusiastic support of the hateful Muslim Brotherhood and Saudi Arabia, and his appointments of the radical Israel hating Islamists Hagel and Brennan, that terrible, sad day may not be far off.
