The text of the full petition: (People really must read this) Signed and shared!

Target: The Chinese Medical Association; Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China
Sponsored by: Tom

Wild animal parts have been used in some TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) preparations for hundreds or thousands of years. Sadly, the huge demand for animal parts, has driven these animals to the brink of extinction. The trade in animal parts for TCM is booming, despite ban. The penalties for the illegal trade are minuscule compared with the profits that can be made.

The skin of Malayan tapirs is consumed to remove boils and ward off infection. Macaque flesh is taken as a malaria treatment and a cure for lassitude. Hawks, Asian barred owls and other owls are made into a soup, which is supposed to improve eyesight. Imperial eagles feathers are rubbed on skin. Leopard fat, rhinoceros horn, elephant eyeballs, porcupine stomachs, wild boar teeth, monkey paws, civet glands, bear's gall bladders, rabbit skulls, seal and otter penises are also consumed for medicinal purposes. In Chinese markets you can see other rare cats, such as leopard cats, on sale as food. The bones from snow leopards and golden cats are used as a tiger bone substitute in some medicines, however, there is no clinical evidence that it is effective.

Sign this petition to protest against using products of endangered animal species in traditional Chinese medicine.

We can protest and sign petitions against the inhumane treatment of animals in China all we want -but--is anyone listening?has there been any feed back from -anyone?this culture is advancing rapidly into new tecnology but they are still living in the days of the -Ninja's it's not just China it's all the Asian countries they have absolute no -compassion or empathy for these poor animals they torture and abuse -kindness is unknown to the majority of them ,I know there are a lot of the young Chinese are trying to help ,but not until they bring in animal protection laws will -anything change-we are told we must -respect other cultures -how can we when we abhore cruelty to humans -or animals.

I don't respect any culture involving cruelty and torture of animals. That is not culture it is sadistic callous society. I will be very surprised if anything we do will have an effect. They have such a stranglehold on manufacturing that virtually everything imported is 'Made in China' and a boycott of their products is nigh on impossible to persuade our governments to impose. Look how many selfish brainless individuals in the west still buy fur from animals tortured and skinned alive in China and there is enough publicity about this for them to be buying in the full knowledge of the vile practices they are supporting. However I am still signing and leaving a comment in the hope that one day the young activists in China will prevail.

have signed China still in middle ages Like when they had witches making brews At least most of theirs were with plants though. I wont be buying Chinese medicine Why is it China and asia have such an appalling record when it comes to animals torture etc Its about time the world stood up and said something instead of turning a blind eye and refused to have Chinese medicine shops and practitioners in their cities

There is no place in the Modern world for superstitious beliefs about medicinal properties of animal parts. It is only destroying millions of endangered animals for nothing. Ignorance in action is a terrible thing to behold.

Some of you may remember my old friend the late Hugh MacDougall. Hugh lived in China for five years where was always treated by a traditional "Chinese Doctor". He arrived back in Brisbane ,to be rushed from the plane to the Hospital where they saved his life, telling him that he was only a week off death. For some time, as long as he took the medication and attended the local Physician he prospered, but sadly he ignored the instructions and died. I neither condemn nor condone natural health products, but using a little intelligence will only lead one to the conclusion that many of these products, Chinese or Western are just "Snake Oil". Well actually Snake Oil is quite good if clarified and deodorised then used for oiling gate hinges.

Please, please. The rash of anti Chinese sentiments is counter productive, not all "Traditional" medications are harmful or lacking efficacy, the same applies to modern Western medication. My own wife was prescribed "Thalidomide" for morning sickness... Do none of you recall the terrible damage that one medication did? Fortunately my wife had an aversion to any tablets and threw the scrip in the garbage, so my daughter was born with all four limbs. Modern medicine, generally, is derived from ancient herbal treatments, a practice on which the Chinese Pharmacoepia relies heavily. Western practice is usually to investigate natural products and their effects then refine and increase the potency then reproduce artificially. Most of the "Voodoo" medications are used by those brought up in the traditions of primitive cultures, Both by the Chinese and other countries.

Noted and signed with this comment:"TCM is the killer if our precious wildlife, there are no proven healing powers. It is a quack business making money on superstition."
The Chinese Medical Association or the Chinese government will never stop this practice, there is too much money involved.
I asked a Chinese once, what are his beliefs, I meant Religion. He answered, I only believe in money.
