The Republicans in their never ending efforts to protect their buddies in big oil who support them have denied the oil spill commission Subpoena power. This should not be tolerated. They only dare because we let them. Please sign. It may not be much, but it better than doing nothing.

I will repeat here a message I sent to Robert:

"As you know, this abhorrent disregard for the health and welfare of citizens -- in their own country -- was the last straw for me.

If we cannot awaken people, whose own children are dying for a lie, then AT LEAST we must make them protect themselves from all enemies -- foreign and domestic!"

This is NOT the country envisioned by the founding "fathers."

(And neither is it the contrived, misintrepretted vision of those who would rewrite this country's history.)

BUT, it is MY country, and YOURS! (And the one we are proud of does NOT sell out to corporations.)

I would (not so humbly) ask those who wish to "take this country back" (meaning: erase centuries of progress) to READ the Constitution!

(and start here)

First Amendment - Religion and Expression

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This country was formed by liberals, who REFUSED to be restricted by their inherent rights, and restricted by those who would USE them for profit.

If you value this country, STAND UP FOR IT!

I cannot think of any more pervasive/terrorist attack -- FROM WITHIN -- than a country whose own elected officials permit the food supply and future productive welfare of its citizens to be POISONED -- and yet, due to corrupt and collusive relationships with corporations -- REFUSE TO PROTECT THEIR OWN!

Americans and in fact the world should be outraged that a powerful group of greedy men intend to stand in the way of our finding the facts of that which led to worst ecological disaster of all time. We must not submit to this quietly. We must fight obvious and disastrous corruption which is at the heart of so much that is wrong in this world. This is one effort in that fight. Please tell everyone. Otherwise they win and we are so screwed. And by we I mean every one and thing from kittens to sea turtles to you and me and the damn greedy bastards responcible. They just don't know it. So we must shout. Please shout now. Time is not on our side.

Sorry to be so late Robert and thanks Carole for the heads up. After reading I guess I could write for a while and say again what we have all said before. One person seemed to ring through my thoughts...Does any one remember Rachel Carson? Are her dire and so very true warnings falling on deaf ears? This is our environment, that means this is our home. I don't care if the oil companies go out of business, they are destroying our home for their bottom line. Or crudely - they are sh%ting where we eat.

The silent spring is all I remember of her but that is enough. She warned us of one day waking to wonder at a missing sound we had taken for granted. She was listened to but not enough followed the path which would stop the mass extinctions that happen to this day and every day. In the sea what has been and is happening goes on mostly out of site and that which is silenced we for the most part never heard, but the impact of its dying will be like an explosion to our world as we have known it and even now they hide the impact of what is being done with fish-farming which only makes things worse in the long run. Our children will one day cry if they can even survive, at what we have allowed to happen. This last disaster may rob the tuna of its existence in a short time. I could go on and on. You all know the story. Thanks for your comment Kit B.
So make some noise, as everything we value is at stake and at least in this relatively small thing of Subpoena power we can score a victory and beat back the greedy for awhile longer from fouling our beautiful sea and world. What could be more important within that which it is possible for us to impact by signing and asking others to ask others to sign? Thank you my friends.

Thanks to all of you who are fighting so hard to end these injustices committed by the very people who are supposed to be protecting your interests.

thank you robert for helping to keep this going. it is disgusting that so little has been done about this in all fields. it is disguting how they continue to get their way about it all, from the people they want to pay 'peanuts' to, the tons and tons chemicals sprayed in the ocean, the not being held responsable when it has been proved that it was greed that cause the accident and that we know about more and more smaller spills that have been covered up or i still leaking away....

Noted and signed with great passion! It amazes me that so many in our country have their heads in the sand about all the toxins, chemicals and poisons in our air, water, and food. It is appalling that those who make millions in profits while not paying their fair share of taxes are allowed to get away with slowly poisoning us, our children and grandchildren, future generations and the planet itself. We must loudly proclaim our resistance to those who would block an investigation of this magnitude.

Article on the plight of Tuna I mentioned earlier. Though not directly related, it is a part of what is a sea in demise during our lifetime. I don't want to distract from this post and insert this only as a loosely related and interesting read for those interested.

And with the systematic poisoning of our oceans, our richest source of food, "we" are shooting ourselves in the foot until the gun only makes a clicking sound not to mention "our" actions causing much other life which has a right to exist, to cease. Sarah would say we should reload no doubt.

Oops, you too, Robert... I guess it was Carole who forwarded it to me. The current assault on our oceans from so many factors (pollution, plastification, acidification, warming, species depletion...) is terrifying enough as it is. Then there's Big Oil, greedily raking in BILLIONS while most of us struggle just to put food on the table. We know BP''s going to shirk every bit of culpability they can in the Gulf disaster. Hold their feet to the fire!

BP testimony: Officials knew of key safety problem on rig
Julie Cart and Rong-Gong Lin II, Los Angeles Times
BP officials knew about a problem on a crucial well safety device at least three months before the catastrophic April 20 explosion in the Gulf of Mexico but failed to repair it, according to testimony Tuesday from the company's well manager.

Ronald Sepulvado testified that he was aware of a leak on a control pod atop the well's blowout preventer and notified his supervisor in Houston about the problem, which Sepulvado didn't consider crucial. The 450-ton hydraulic device, designed to prevent gas or oil from blasting out of the drill hole, failed during the disaster, which killed 11 men on the Deepwater Horizon rig and set off the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history.

Investigators said BP did not disclose the matter to the appropriate federal agency and failed to suspend drilling operations until the problem was resolved, as required by law.

...Two BP maintenance audits from February and March indicated a number of mechanical problems on the rig, including an engine that was out of operation, a thruster that was not running and the leak in the blowout preventer.

The audits noted that the due date for inspection of the blowout preventer had passed, according to panel member Jason Mathews. Sepulvado testified he was unaware that the manufacturer required testing every five years. The device had not been inspected since 2000, federal investigators said...
