Despite its contradictions and ellipses, Romneyism has an internal coherence. It is different from conservatism, because it does not intend to conserve or protect any particular institutions or values.

Nice job tracking this one down, Robert. I've never seen this explained so clearly. Now I fully understand why this guy scares the crap out of me!

Thank You Robert for providing the link to the article by Robert Reich. Great read and right on target. Read and noted.

Reads pretty much as I have thought about 'him' and the new plateform of their 'Political' Party. Unfortunately it's shades of years past in foreign lands...A blend of 'Fasism' and another, which seems to be somewhat defined to date as far as I've read etc. I will save other thoughts on this until after the election ..for a number of reasons. Thanks Robert as this puts things int a clear cut way that almost all can comprehend that are willing to do so. Unfortunately there are many in this country who are 'gun ho' so to say to go with the points made clear in the article. The question today for me is..are they enough to get this 'God' elected in this election...even with rig'd voting machines and voter suppression effort of the Rightwing extremist........?

Thanks Clarence for the link you proved several of us to this thread and to Robert for ...finding and sharing it ! It's a keeper for future ref. without a doubt...

I will go out on that limb here to kind of complete a thought/opinion of mine above...

" A blend of Fasism and..." ...upon reading the 'list' in the article again I'd say...and possibly eliments of Communism. Anyone else have any thoughts as to the 'type' of government that the 'plateform' represents to them?
Just curious :-) ............

All my thoughts about this pervasive ideology spelled out in easily comprehended language.

Frighteningly necessary.

Excellent, Robert!

Not wanting to be misread . . . "Frighteningly necessary" refers to being a necessary READ -- not a necessary platform.

The Rich want to grab ALL the remaining resources of Earth while they CAN. They NEED them for their lifestyles, which are extremely high-tech dependent; and will become more so. This requires minerals and "rare earths". These resources are LIMITED. Unlike what was depicted in Sci-fi in the '50's and '60's, we will NEVER be able to "mine on other planets". It would cost us too much to get there, be too dangerous.

Areas SAFE to live on, are diminishing. The Rich want to grab all THOSE for themselves. "Tornado alley" won't be safe. Deserts will be even hotter, much larger and dryer. Islands will be submerged. Seacoast settlements - like Manhatten - will be PERMANENTLY under water, in a few years. The Rich KNOW this. They aren't stupid - they just LIE to us, keeping US stupid.
The Rich may have to live underground - or on High Ground - but it will be very hi-tech dependent. Water will have to be filtered of pollution, air will have to be filtered, radioactivity will have to be dealt with, agriculture will have to be different...
The LUCKY ones, will be those allowed inside the Rich people's Gated Communities, as servants or as guards to keep the riff-raff out... employment will be entirely at the Rich people's mercy, one peep out of you and out you go, together with your whole family, to take your chances outside, scrabbling thru the garbage dumps for survival on a thoroly polluted planet...
THIS is why the Rich want to MONOPOLIZE EVERYTHING - ALL resources.
It will be like a form of Feudalism, with the equivalent of heavily-guarded Castles...

As we mine, going deeper and deeper, it becomes more & more expensive to get there, which USES UP the resources to GET at the resources... figure out how THAT'S going to go...

Maybe the entire Industrial Revolution was a BIG MISTAKE... and UNSUSTAINABLE forever, for more than a few hundred years...!!!!!

Pity that the election is about to happen. Everyone should read this beforehand.
It's a clear, systematic analysis of what has been going on. I hope Obama reads it. He probably understands this already.

Accurate & succinct analysis, as usual, from Robert Reich. And, yes, quite frightening in that it's exactly the kind of thinking which will seal our doom on this planet.

Kit B. (276)

What Reich did was construct an article around what Romney has been saying for years. Maybe, all he has done is synthesize the Romney talking points. Some how, I really don't understand how people that consider themselves American patriots can follow along in lock step, with this wholly unAmerican ideology. This does take Romney out of the category of being another GW Bush and puts him into a singularly destructive and dangerous category all alone.

Why did Romney export do many jobs to China? It was profitable.

Why the danger of a big war under Romney? War is profit....and we see where this goes down hill.

Thx Robert, I had also read thisyesterday and said to myself thanks Robert Reich for summarising it so clearly in hopes that ALL will finally understand what this man is all about. When Rmoney made his infamous 47% - statement he probably had in mind actually some 98%, considering these, not belonging to the "productive" top ,just vermin, bugs that society should get rid of.

Letter to a Non-Voter ...from Michael Moore

Sunday, November 4th, 2012

To my friend who is not voting on Tuesday:

I get it – and I don't blame you. You're fed up and you could care less whether Tweedledee or Tweedledumber wins on Tuesday – because on Wednesday, your life will be the same, unchanged, regardless who is president. Your mortgage will still be underwater. You will still owe $50,000 on your student loan. Your son will still be in Afghanistan. Your daughter will still be working two jobs to make ends meet. And gas will still be at $4.

Four years ago you gave in and voted – and you voted for Obama. You wanted to believe he would go after the Wall Street crooks who crashed the economy – but instead the banks that were "too big to fail" four years ago are now even bigger and more dangerous. You thought there'd be universal health care – but the new law only went so far (with most of it not taking effect until 2014). You were tired of war and homeland security measures that violated our civil liberties – but we're still in Afghanistan, we're sending in drones to Pakistan and basic constitutional rights to privacy and a fair trial have been ignored. And you thought you'd have a middle-class, good-paying job like your dad had – but you didn't know that Goldman Sachs was Obama's #1 private campaign donor in 2008, and well, he was beholden to corporate America in more ways we cared to think about.

So, I get it why you've had it with all these politicians and elections. In the end, it doesn't really seem to be our country any more. It's run by those who can buy the most politicians to do their bidding. Our schools are made a low priority and women are still having to fight for just the basic human rights we thought they already had.

So, it's hard for me to ask you for this very personal favor. It's OK if you say "no," but I'm hoping you don't.

I cannot believe it is possible that, after a group of rich plutocrats wrecked the economy, threw people out of work and stole our future, we may actually hand the keys to our country over to...a rich Republican plutocrat who made millions by throwing people out of work! This is insane, and despite all the legitimate criticisms of Obama, he is nothing like the tsunami of hate and corporate thievery that will take place if Mitt Romney is president. As bad as it feels now, it will only get worse. I need your help to stop this.

I can't promise you that your life will get better, easier under Barack Obama. I do think he cares and I know for sure that if the other guy is sitting in the Oval Office, I can guarantee you that not only will your life not get better, it will get much, much worse. Don't take my word for it. Just ask your parents what life was like before a 30-year pillage by the Republicans of the middle class. Your parents bought a house and eventually owned it outright. They weren't in debt. College was free. They bought a new car every 3 or 4 years. They took vacations and were home for dinner by 5 or 6 PM. They had a savings account in the bank. They didn't live in fear of not knowing if they'd even have a job next year.

That's all gone. I don't know if we can get it back, but I do know that Mr. Romney would love the chance to complete the final elimination of the middle class and the American Dream.

He must be stopped. Take 20 minutes on Tuesday and go vote. If you don't want to do it for your country, then do it for me! It's the only favor I'll ever ask of you.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I know that you care, and care deeply, about your future and your kids' future. You have every right to be cynical about all this. And you hold the power to stop the bastards who plan on squeezing every last dime out of you that they can. Take a stand. And make a statement to those who are hoping against hope that you'll stay home on Tuesday. Your presence at the polls is what they fear most.

Go scare the s**t out of them! For me.

Yours,
Michael Moore

I appreciate your harkening to that below the surface and below.

What lies on top, on the surface, floating...all its stench so clearly in the air, is enough for me to attempt to point out here, in the immediate, in a world where denial is the first resort and kept at... even as the application of clothespins to faces becomes bleak, beak, fashion, and we with breath catching in our throats at what surely should be obvious... wonder if laughing or crying is in order. We do what we can. Thank you.

Romney is what our country needs after four failed years with Obama sitting in the White House. Obama never stopped campaigning after he won in 2008. That's all he knows how to do. It's all he cares about as our Narcissist In Chief.

Romney, as a past governor and an accomplished businessman has more experiencing at governing in his little finger than Obama has in both hands.

What happens if you don't like either candidate? Should you be forced to vote for the lesser of the two evils? Neither one is smart enough, or capable enough to really "run" this country, at least not in a responsible, forward moving, business-like, professional, concerned manner. Why can't a really decent, caring, intelligent person run for president? Is it because no one wants the job, they're all afraid of responsibility, or how to be a leader, or how to get this country & her people back on track, back on top?? Romney is scary, Obama is a lot of talk, both are wimps!!

Down w/Obama, check out the site I posted, Tell me why this happened? Impeachment him. I shake with anger at the Obama administration over their lying about this.

The Obama Regime should be ashamed, lying to the American People. One thing this shows is Obama is on the side of our enemies, he is the enemy within, I have no respect for Obama anymore. If Benghazi had happened on Bush's watch the mainstream media would have been all over it like flies on a dead mule.

We need Obama out now, our futures and lives depend on it. He will let war come here and let us die. Then say he didn't know about the attack. Wow. We cannot let this immposter continue pretending to lead the country with his lies and deceit....

Where is the outrage from the American public? For once I have to agree with Michelle Obama- For the first time in my life I'm ashamed of my country and the people in it and especially our President Obama.

Vote Romney/Ryan 2012 Romney is proud of being American, he does not set himself up for failure.

Thanks. No Diane, Gov Romney has more experience making money at other people's expense than the President. Who didn't stop campaigning? It's been Gov Romney that hasn't stopped campaigning since Sen McCain lost the 2008 election. After tomorrow, they'll have that in common as well.

Much thanks for posting this, Robert. Excellent article. More thanks for posting Michael Moore's letter.
*I'm sorry I'm unable to send Robert another green star since I sent one in the past week.

For those who just loved Dumbya, you're gonna adore Willard Romney. But, despite the few last screaming wails and protests from conservonuts in these last hours, they should prepare themselves for a gigantic loss. Did you forget the huge numbers of Reps. who were die-hard Ron Paul supporters? Did you forget the Evangelicals who can't bring themselves to vote for a Mormon--whose savior is alive, and living on some planet? Did you forget that 47% of Americans were deeply insulted by Willard? Did you forget "Flip-Flop Mitt" who changes his tune depending on which way the wind's blowing? Look for a BIG upset due to write-in votes for Ron Paul and others like Jon Huntsman.

Hey Jae,
Benito Mussolini, suggested that fascism - a word rooted in the Italian language - "should more properly be called 'corporatism,' because it is the merger of state and corporate power. I guess he was in a position to know.

Voter suppression...

Obama is going to win a landslide victory unless they try to steal it, as that is how they operate. In their world, the ends justify the means, but the ends are never for the people's benefit. Anyway, Obama is going to win the landslide, that's my prediction, and I stand by it.

I will grant that Romney is a very wealthy man, his business of being a "corporate raider" has made him and a few others very wealthy indeed.

What has Obama done for you in four years?

The list is still growing. Let me know if I missed anything.

1. Saved the collapse of the American automotive industry by making GM restructure before bailing them out, and putting incentive money to help the industry

2. Shifted the focus of the war from Iraq to Afghanistan, and putting the emphasis on reducing terrorism where it should have been all along

3. Relaxed Anti-American tensions throughout the world

4. Signed order to close the prisoner “torture camp” at Guantanamo Bay

5. Has made the environment a national priority, and a primary source for job creation

12. Renewed dialogue with NATO and other allies and partners on strategic issues.

13. Beginning the process of reforming and restructuring the military 20 years after the Cold War to a more modern fighting force… this includes new procurement policies, increasing size of military, new technology and cyber units and operations, etc.

Once again, this is a lot to accomplish in such a short amount of time. He was elected President, he wasn’t elected Jesus.

Yes, I believe those ten commandments are the ones Mitt follows above all others. There was a time in this country when we believed in the common good and we had statespersons capable of looking far into the future and enacting legislation designed to help our country grow AND promote the common good. Things like the national railways, our interstate highway system, our electrical grid, sewers and sewage treatment plants, education and schools and the social safety net. I've quoted this before but I love the phrasing as much as I agree with and believe in the principles so clearly articulated.

It came in a Hubert Humphrey speech that contained the lines "It was once said that the moral test of Government is how that Government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped," which is sometimes described as the "liberals' mantra." This was what Hubert, a true man of the people who was universally praised for his ability to work across party lines to get things done, believed true. I believe it true as well. And in my vision, losing track of those great words, thoughts are what has led to the chasm between the two parties of today. No one is looking beyond the next election, nor have they been for a very long time. That is going to cost us dearly as Nature will do for us what we have been unable to do for ourselves, cleanse our hands and our planet. Sandy isn't the ending, indeed she is barely the beginning.

I guess the word I've been looking for that best describes the 'blend' I've mentioned above..is Oligarchy...and that is what a Romney win will set in stone for us all.

Robert,

I hope you’re celebrating right now. You should be. You earned this.

I’m headed out of my office and about to go hug some volunteers who -- like you -- worked incredibly hard to make this victory happen.

But first, I need your attention for three minutes. When we wake up tomorrow, we have a huge fight on our hands.

The same corporations and right-wing billionaires who spent record amounts trying to buy the election for Mitt Romney have their priorities, and they’re already spending millions more to bully Congress into falling into line behind them. They’re mobilizing right now -- starting tonight.

Washington, D.C. is going to start talking about extending the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2% and turning the focus back to the deficit again. And there’s a very real danger that cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and other programs Americans rely on will be on the table. Those cuts would affect all of us-- the very people that elected President Obama, Vice President Biden, and other working family candidates tonight.

So it’s up to us to fight like hell for the working people in our communities. We need to work to make sure the rich pay their fair share, there are no cuts to our benefits, and programs that safeguard our country’s future -- like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security -- are safe for generations to come.

Please take a moment to sign the petition, telling Congress to protect working families, and let the Bush tax cuts for the top 2% expire.

Then, go celebrate, hug someone, and look for more from us very soon about the fight of our lives.

In Solidarity,

Richard Trumka
President, AFL-CIO

Congratulations, Robert!

I am so relieved that Mitt R will not be president.

You know I have my differences (great, even) with Obama, but I am still happy he won.

Congratulations to the Obamas & to the voters that came through to defeat the Rethugs.

Kit's list is quite impressive & a bit over-positive for me, but I will come back in a day or so to add my view of his record, rather than leaving only his 'accomplishments' (some of which are -to my mind- debatable) to be commended, so that the issues where he has failed us also show up.

But this is a moment for celebrating, so I won't do that know.

I don't expect and did not expect Obama to be a "liberal" nor do I think he will be the next fours years. Both parties are changing, new ideas and new people are changing the face of America.

I think I'm only too aware of Obama's short falls, most of us are. Though I also believe that he just might have "heard" us, and maybe the changes in Congress (both Houses) will allow for some forward moment. This country is still facing some huge problems, both morally and fiscally. Just because the election is over does not mean we stop holding all elected officials as responsible and, keep the pressure on them.

We have saved the metaphorical house and can now work on fixing the roof and getting heat and hot water. We can from this position....peer out at still circling wolves, sip our cold gruel, and perhaps smile. Life is good.

Five days later...its has sunk in. We have avoided Romneyism. Defeating the idea of it soundly. Its namesake vanquished to private life what he did enough damage....and his party beaten back for now. Congratulations America!
