This could solve the growing energy demands of millions of people in the Mid East & alleviate some of the region's tensions pertaining to oil supplies.Equally, such a massive engineering project may cause untold ecological harm & displace countless people

Noted. This poses quite a conumdrum. The solution would be clean alternative fuel so that the regional tension over oil can be somewhat mitigated. The ecological potential harm from this project is hard to even imagine for me, but equally tormenting is where would displaced persons go to live? Thank you, JR, for submitting the story.
