noted so many of these rapes are under the delusional idea that it will protect the males from AIDS. EDUCATION MUST BE BROUGHT TO THESE REGIONS.

“Unlike other crimes like murder, theft of property, or criminal mischief, the regular courts do not regularly deal with rape or sexual violence cases, either because the complainants are not willing to pursue the case or state prosecutors are busy handling other cases,” a senior Liberian judge who requested anonymity told IRIN.

When I first joined Care2 and would post stories like these the reaction was almost always centered around "how could people do these things" It wasn't until after a few months membership it became apparent people in the Northern Hemisphere didn't realize that in many places rape is not what you up there would call a criminal offense. It is a civil or social offense punishable by a fine and that is usually set according to tribal custom.All of the efforts to put the spotlight on these events as CRIMES are taking root. AS crimes we are beginning to see results in courts being established to prosecute the perpetrators as criminals. I hope they push this as far as it can go. Otherwise the vigilantes have begun to take control themselves( http://www.care2.com/news/member/625613553/678009) and in this country, as just as that might be, the rule of law needs to prevail.
