" one man has emerged as the face of it all: 24-year-old Scott Olsen.

The incident has outraged marines around the world. On social news site Reddit, one man wrote, “How I feel, as a United States Marine, about what occurred in Oakland” and man shared this photo:

The Occupy Wall Street declared Thursday: “We are all Scott Olsen.”

Olsen’s injuries have also angered Oakland protesters and civil rights activists, who dispute Oakland Police accounts that cops did not use rubber bullets or flashbangs on protesters. Many photos and videos have emerged to suggest that police did.

Oakland Police yesterday released a statement that said they cannot speak for the actions of other law enforcement agencies on the scene. Other police forces from the Bay Area and Northern California were involved.

Among the controversial videos that have emerged is the following video that begins with Olsen lying motionless on the ground. As protesters run to his aid, police officers appear to lob a flash grenade into the crowd, causing a bright flash and loud bang:

In a statement released yesterday, Oakland Police admitted to having used bean bag rounds, a controversial projectile that looks like a tiny bean bag but is filled with lead. It was once banned in policing after causing a fatal incident in 1971.

Jay Finneburgh, an activist photographer who was at the protest, told The Guardian that he found a bean bag round at the place where Olsen had been hit."

"Scott Olsen, a former Marine and two-time Iraq War veteran, sustained a skull fracture and remains hospitalized after being shot in the head with a police projectile while peacefully participating in an Occupy Oakland march. Occupy Oakland and Iraq Veterans Against the War are asking people to stand in solidarity with Scott by posting and sharing the image below, which you can do by clicking here. They are also calling on occupations around the country to hold vigils for Scott tonight, hold him in their thoughts, and pray for his recovery. To find an occupation near you to see if they'll be holding a vigil for Scott tonight, go here:

This is so sad and so unnessecary...why do we have to protest to make progress?? Seems to me that people like Scott are being forced to give their valuable time to make the Government give workers what they so rightly deserve!! God bless Scott...TY Barbara.

Whether they can speak for the other police agencies involved in the brutal attack or not makes no difference. The Oakland police called in the reinforcements and that makes the Oakland police RESPONSIBLE for anything that happened in the viscous assault on the peaceful protesters.

Help to stop these brutal attacks by signing the petition found here:

All the best for Scott Olsen.

I expect and hope that the general strike being called seeks support from and coordinates with local merchants, unions and the like, reasonably respects the rights of ordinary citizens who are not demonstrating, and is orderly and non-violent. If so, the contrast between the demonstrators and the police and Mayor will be immensely powerful. If, on the other hand, even one person dies or one house goes up in flames because emergency vehicles cannot pass, for example, the harm to this movement will be tremendous. A great deal could be riding on this.

This isn't the first time the American government has turned on its veterans. The Bonus Army consisted of WWI vets who, having endured significant unemployment due to the Great Depression, demanded the bonuses they had been promised upon returning from the war. They camped out in Washington until FDR got fed up and ordered MacArthur to do something. MacArthur stormed the Bonus Army camp with combat troops and tanks. Many of the vets were disabled and unable to get away fast enough to avoid being beaten, shot, or burned when MacArthur ordered the veterans' camp set on fire. If what happened to Scott Olsen is any indication, we are getting closer and closer to the time when history will repeat itself yet again.

It is sad that the establishment has created violence and blamed it on the protesters. Now they have gone and hurt a war hero; a man who has put his own life on the line for his country has been more wounded here in America than in Iraq. This government of ours had better start listening to it's people as more and more are coming out against this government. Obama... Congressmen...Senators... can't you hear them?? Are they deaf or just dumb?

This (video) looks and sounds lke a war zone on the streets of Oakland, CA. The "police" have made it so - I doubt this was the protester's intent.

First of all: may he get well soon, let's hope he'll recover completely.

Secondly: what the heck were they proving, those cops who started this violence? That Big Money and -so called- "law and order" are more important than the life and health of peacefull protestors?

Thanks Barbara!

We're marching to a new tune and if our elected officials can't get in step they should find another line of work. It's time to look around our neighborhoods, communities and seek out that talent eager to serve all of America not only the select few..

I'm working on yet another letter to President Obama. These are some of the points I will cover..

All of a sudden the very wealthy are coming out of their cozy dens and saying that they should be paying more taxes. And I'm not speaking to Buffet who has taken a lot of heat for his stance. Where was the well healed the last declining years? I wonder if it's something the 99 % occupying Wall Street said, that finally reached their apathetic hearts.

So far no one in the White house has addressed that a young veteran, Scott Olsen, was seriously injured in a terrorist action and a women, in a wheelchair, hassled by the police.. Hello President Obama you are the president of these United States and have an obligation to address this "Abuse Of Power".

It seems you and your justice dept have no problems criminalizing the use of medical marijuana within the sovereign states, go after the little fish, yet, you're conspicuously silent when a veteran, who served two tours, standing on his 1st amendment RIGHT, which he believed he went to war to protect, is denied that right!

Wall Street knows it has both parties right where they want them since they've been working to that end for many years now. This includes everyone running for the 2012 presidency, most members of the present Congress, including you sir.

I'm offended that you have received and accepted more Wall Street campaign funds then even the Republicans for the 2012 election. How "Dare" any American leader stoop so low, "Dare" call themselves an America yet would "Dare" spit in the face of the blood, sweat and tears that built this nation. You are spitting in the face of all of US who believed in you.. Lobby this! Lobby That! Before you know it there's no seats left to Lobby! And the 99% are left in the lurch!

You're suppose to be a professor of the constitution. I'm beginning to believe you do not serve the constitution that Jefferson slaved over before "Proudly" signing it! American's that understand this Truth to be Self Evident" are going to take back this nation from those who would "Dare" sell out her citizens and resources to the highest bidder...

OWS will not fade away. It's a force built on the innocence of truth. If only one person stands on a street corner near their home, this winter, in the snow and cold, holding a sign, it will be enough to keep the torch alive till spring. I see people on many street corners holding signs everywhere I go. They're the young, middle aged and the grand set..

Occupy has only just begun to fight the good fight. When do the elected officials begin to perform the duties the American constitution and their oath of offices commands them to do?

Do "We" need to educate our leaders? I voted for you! I donated to your campaign! I fought those who attacked you. I believed in you. When do you fight for the "Change" you promised the 99%?

bless you Scott! Speedy recovery and hope some lawyer out there will do a pro bono and sue the crap out of the idiot/s that harmed him. That was a cowardly attack on "first responders" who tried to come to his rescue. There is no *^%&@$ excuse for them to ATTACK unarmed AMERICANS!!! And what was with the riot gear??? Were the uniforms a shiny Christmas present from the 1% to encourage them to "keep the 99% under control?" Shameless sell outs in Darth Vader Michelin Man outfits!!!!SHAME!!!!

Myron, I couldn't have said it better.

I claim Scott Olsen as my brother. Wounding him, has wounded me. I am not recovering in a hospital bed and so I have the strength and abilitiy to seek out justice on his behalf and so do we all.

I have sent an email to the Oakland mayors office, I have signed petitions calling attention to this atrocity. I will send others to let them know that this crisis they created will not go away until they fix it and make amends to Scott, his family, our marines, the protestors, our civil rights, our nation, our constitution, the people of Oakland and the businesses for their loss.

The rest of us have an obligation to make an example of this type of behavior and Oakland is where we can draw the line and put our collective foot down or the cancer will spread. Others will believe because we allowed this to go unpunished and not corrected that it can be done and gotten away without negative repercussions.

An email every week, until the investigation, prosecution, trial, sentencing and legistaltive changes have been made. We weren't shot, but it could have been us and it will be us if we don't pipe up. The forces of evil cannot have this victory. This malignancy is undermining our democracy we cannot survive unless we stop it. They will count on complacency and that no one will see this through to take their victory and have this established as a precedent for further malicous behavior. Our lack of follow through will count as tacit approval in their eyes and the cancer will grow.

He is my brother, and I will defend his right to do what he was doing. He stood for me, he stood in harms way for us to protect us from exactly what it is he fell victim too. Not with me you don't .They are with the wrong family.

An email every week, until the end, we are watching. Right here, right now, no more.

Anyone facing an illness, debilitating injury or a care giver can be part of the movement by simply placing " I Support the Occupy Movement" sign in your window..On a car window. Or in the local store where you shop.

Or simply by moving the actions, stories, pending events that are being presented, via emails, blogs, fax's, texts. letters. We are all Scott Olsen, Bradley Manning, the wikileaks founder Julian Assange and the millions of Occupy "Brave Hearts" out on the streets across the nation and throughout the world speaking truth to the deafness that has been in power way too long!

These are times that must be relished with great pride. Those weathering the abusive police tactic's, poor weather conditions, lack of funds yet stay the course, are the heroes of this young millennium "We" have scarcely entered.

Supporting these "Brave Hearts" in whatever way possible, must be the torch we are all willing to carry.. Even if it's from the stoop of our home, office, apartment. We are the 99%!
