Since there are some who believe that when an officer beats a prisoner they are justified I'm here to tell you that you don't ever want this to happen to you and, never say, never will, because life has a way of teaching US that one should never say never. Because tomorrow you may be wearing the handcuffs and be at the mercy of some peace officer that will not perform like peace is on their agenda. With the "National Defense Authorization Act" every American is FAIR GAME! With the trespass/protest bill it's a given!

This beating took place before NDAA and the trespass/protest bill. Unfortunately, great violence has been part of law enforcement in this country for over two centuries. These two recent changes in law will not increase law enforcement violence as it has already expressed so much deliberate evil. In 1968 and 1969, the FBI went on a murder binge against the Black Panthers. If someone had not started videotaping, Rodney King would have been beaten to death. How many were beaten death when there was no videotaping?

I do realize that Jesse was killed in 09 before these two bills were passed that's why I say "With the "National Defense Authorization Act" every American is FAIR GAME! With the trespass/protest bill it's a given!

Since these two Bills passed it makes it, in some sick sense, legal to do such horrible things to anyone that is singled out. Scary times "We" live in. Everything has been turned upside down..

That said! I am an optimist and believe that this darkness will burn itself out and the light will emerge once again. The people of the planet are motivated.

scary consequence for a misdemeanor which also violates international human rights standards (that supposedly are less stringent than our constitution guarantees)...

No John not old news just a different time where the same old was taking place and it is still a major problem today! Tell Jesse Lee's family he's old news. That his story does not count today, nor the outrageous abuse he suffered because it happened a few years ago.

America is forever forgetting to look back so she can move forward with "A Clean Slate"

President Obama said "Don't Look Back" when it came to the crooked Banking practices! Are "We" better for that "PRESIDENTIAL" move?

Jesse was a man who was brought in on a misdemeanor and left the police station in what amounts to a body bag!

America had better get her head out of her future till she takes stock of her checkered past! I had not heard Jesse' story till a Facebook friend shared it and obviously she had not as well. That tells me there are folks out there who have no idea about this man's story as well.

Because it happened in 09 does that make it no longer a viable story? Are "We" finally getting beyond police brutality?

I knew that there would be this feedback but I decided to tell Jesse' story anyway!

If it were someone you loved and the situation was not getting better and then here comes the NDAA and The Trespass Bill, would you sleep better at night? There have been many Jesse' and their will be many more unless "We" look back at where we're been so "We" have an idea of where we're going!

I am not a happy camper about where we're going and any sane person would agree. So! What's the answer? Forget the past? What about a past that corrupts the future? I had not heard Jesse' story and when I became familiar with it I was angered and hurt that this crap is a continuous episode in my country! Maybe some of your friends and mine have no idea what happened to Jesse Lee Williams. Barbara/founder/dtdn.net

This particular atrocity may have happened 3 years ago but such atrocities have not stopped. Indifference is and hair splitting is what allows it to continue.

Thanks for posting Barbara.

Our past is the foundation of our future.
Never forget where you came from.
The world believes forgetting past crimes is denying justice.
That is true. Justice delayed is justice denied.
Bush & Cheney are STILL war criminals.
They destroyed America's credibility.
Until they, and their supporters, are prosecuted for their crimes America will not regain her pride and reputation. All those who voted for their second term are co-conspiritors. Obama is guilty of helping to cover up their crimes...
Obama is no leader, he is a follower of Fascist powers.

No doubt all those on the ''right'' ,politically speaking....would prefer that the rest of us forget 'the past' and rush blindly in hopes of 'moving forward'...regardless if it's only to make the same mistakes all over again. That kind of thinking/mindset is what we must make sure is never 'the norm', when it comes to how our masses [the people] 'think'.

It's up to us to keep reminding others of the past, be it a national [GOP/Dem/Indy] issue or a single event by so called 'law enforement', ....practices/actions, upon a single individual as with this case...No one should be treated as this man was by an American govermental law enforcer or group of law enforecers who,in many of our opinions, clearly broke the laws of our land with their actions upon this man.

Sorry Barbara, C2 messing up so badly I haven't been able to help you on your request. I got the first 25 people on my list, starting with the letter A, so you being B, got the information on the Cinco de Mayo and the Perigee Moon. Then all stopped, C2 was completely screwed up and I'm trying to play catch up here.

I agree, matters not that this happened 3 years ago, it wasn't like it was 30 years ago. This is in current times and it reflects a change in our justice system since 9-11 where we are now viewed as the Terrorist and the new training that all our law enforcement personal since then are getting is no longer to protect and serve but to view us as the enemy.

So if stories like this have to be aired a million times so be it, until the general public is understanding that this is NOT the society they use to live in, not only in the economic sense but in the enforcement sense as well. For an updated story how about the tourist that died here in Florida only back in January 2012. The title to the story is DEATH IN THE DEVILS CHAIR--Man's Pepper Sray Death Raises Questions About Jail Abuse.

noted. This does matter even though it took place in"09. There was no excuse for it then and none now...but it continues on because too many people are still blaise...which is s shame and frightening in these times, where an "opinion" can land you ass in jail. thanks Barbara

Too many have been brutalized including children. From the video responses..."I live in Europe, and in my country not a single person has ever been killed in prison or jail, either by police, guards or inmates. Never ever, not once. Sometimes it seems like America is on another planet: (" Who can we trust? Our country is becoming a sadder place to reside. I refuse to give up hope.

You cannot currently send a star to Nancy because you have done so within the last week.

Nancy I have asked this "Question" Many times and few have answered.. What do "We" stand for America? Do "We" even know? Do "We" care? Or are we so full of hate and prejudices that "We" cannot see that "We" and "We" alone have weakened our nation by our indifference, prejudices and gr$$d and thus have undermined our own survival?

"We" are the land of immigrants. There would be no America if not for those who came from all parts of the world to forge out a better life for them and their loved ones. Jefferson understood this! Jefferson also understood that if "We" allowed our strengths to be divided "We" would rue the day! Are "We" not? Ruing the day that is!

He advocated that "We" never allow our government to forge out alliances, allegiances, treaty's with any NATION. Any nation! What Jefferson did advocate was that "We" enjoy peaceful relations and commerce. NO ENTANGLEMENTS with Europe or any other nation.

63 years ago "We" began a downward spiral. 1948! Interesting year don't you think? It's called NATO! Even the UN and our close entanglement with this entity has not quelled the violence in the world. "We" are forever at war! "We" are forever, "Somewhere In The World", allowing ourselves to be part of terrorism! What do "We" call invading the countries of others solely for material gain?

We said that fascism, Nazis, were rotten to the core for what this ideology converged on many of the worlds people. Less "We" lose sight of the truth. Millions of innocent people, who were not Jews, suffered and were murdered by this group of hate mongers. NOW "We" have a government that advocates that "We" fear, hate, Islam.

Look back at our "Sordid" history less you want to repeat the mistakes of the past! America has, step by step, over many years, lost any semblance of a soul! Today she advocates that "Children ARE Acceptable Collateral Damage! CHILDREN!

There are Republicans, even some Democrats who advocate that no women has the right to abort a fetus under any circumstances. Yet these same judges of ones personal life also refuse to make certain that there is no child, much less an American child, going to bed hungry!

BOTH PARTY'S have been criminal in their behavior. For years now it's been good cop bad cop on the floor of the Congress!

The Republicans are doing what Jefferson always knew they would continue to do, but the Democrats, the party that is suppose to be of, by and for the people, has betrayed this country by joining forces WITH the Republican ideology!

These same judges advocate that heath care is not a right! What does a parent say to her child should that child be ill and there's no recourse that makes one feel safe with a beloved's life?

America has lost, if she ever had one, her "MORAL COMPASS"... !948 officially began an era that Jefferson warned US about! OH! Sure! The idea of a NATO, the UN, sounded mighty good at the time! The corporate media, controlled by big money, special interest, with clandestine agendas, made sure that they sold this "Bill Of Goods To US and, "We" fell hook line and SINKER!

It's the SINKER part that has come home to roost! Has it not? Just ask the rest of the world what they think!

I have lost faith in the world leaders, many of whom are on a dangerous quest that's most certainly ruining this world, undermining her resources, murdering her innocence, children, that get in the way of their piracy.

If the "We" in this equation do not take a very strong stance against this tyranny, oppression, and now with the National Defense Authorization Act, SUPPRESSION, and recover what IS rightfully ours, the contract, constitution and the Bill Of Rights, recorded centuries ago by wiser man then "We" see today, "We" will seal our fate much as our indifference towards the plight of the world has impacted humanity and the other living breathing life forms on this living planet.

The disease of Gr$$d, lust for power, cruel individuals, are doing this entire planet in. Their actions speak volumes about this! While I completely understand America is not the lone wolf in this "Sordid Game Of Chess" she certainly seems to wield the biggest club.

America, though Jefferson warned US against it, has made herself way too cozy with certain world leaders who care not for peace, only expansion.. Expansion at any cost!

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”
― Carl Sagan,

“Since mankind's dawn, a handful of oppressors have accepted the responsibility over our lives that we should have accepted for ourselves. By doing so, they took our power. By doing nothing, we gave it away. We've seen where their way leads, through camps and wars, towards the slaughterhouse.”
― Alan Moore, V for Vendetta

“I believe that there will be ultimately be a clash between the oppressed and those who do the oppressing. I believe that there will be a clash between those who want freedom, justice and equality for everyone and those who want to continue the system of exploitation. I believe that there will be that kind of clash, but I don't think it will be based on the color of the skin...”
