He wasn't even charged with being under the influence or anything.
You think that would've come up too.

Noted with such sadness for the baby. Thank you Monica for bringing this story to our attention.

This is outrageous, the justice system is too lenient on these evil monsters. I believe the Mother has a lot to answer for too, in leaving her defenseless baby in this person's care. He had had 15 criminal convictions before this incident and she's since had a baby with him!

Unlikely to rehabilitate, requires min. of 6 yrs. of confinement with INTENSIVE reform counseling and reform; and then it would still be questionable.

We come across more and more news like this all the time. People are being injured and killed by folks who are mentally ill. The man said he did not know why he did that and that he needed help. He voluntarily described his irrational outburst of rage against the poor baby. I post news all the time similar to this, like the schizophrenic man who followed two little boys into an Arizona park and beat them to death Christmas week, and my news yesterday about one homeless mentally ill man who just walked up to another homeless mentally ill man, a Marine vet, who was sleeping on a park bench and beat his brains out.

One by one these sick people are sent to prison, and one by one they serve their time and get out again, often without having any psychiatric care and released without any mandates for continued psychiatric treatment, even if they were under the care of a doctor for mental problems in prison.

We can ask what that mother was thinking to leave her baby with the man, but I ask each of you, what are we thinking to allow our elected officials to continue to close mental hospitals and withhold mental health care to folks who are too sick to seek help. What are we thinking when we let our children go to the park and walk through our malls?

Demand sensible standards of care for mentally ill people and that mental hospitals be re-opned to promote better care for sick people and greater safety to your own children and grandchildren.

Robin, the baby survived. BUT will have issues now stemming from the beating.
I also agree with mary neal, if they are indeed mentally ill then they need to be in psychiatic care. They need to find out what if he really is "mentally ill" or if he is just a sick bastard.

for a site about human rights, talking about killing another human cause he commited a crime well its pretty damn hippocritical, he was on drugs, he must of been stressed, I doubt he beat the brat because he wanted to have some pleasure. and nine years is a very long time, hell he will be better at being a crimnal cause thats what prisons do, Imean why do you have to be mentally ill to get help for emotinal problems? the way I see it you people that support death are just as or more so more evil then he is.

today's psychiatric care seems to treat everything with drugs since they have taken up with big pharma so I doubt that treatment would do this guy much good.
But, by the same token, he obviously can't control himself emotionally so may drugging him into eternity is the best thing to do if they are keeping him alive.
I think the best thing that should be done is to hand him over to the relatives of this child.
