Very smart idea in its simplictic construction.
My assumption to using green bottles is the thermal temperature required without bottles bursting. If dark coloured bottles were used, there may be risk of the water nearing boiling point and may either burst or risk of scalding.

This is just about the beer! Anyone can tell you that simply using endles black tubes on the roof would collect far more energy from the sun than this bottles! The great idea behind this is that you have a perfect excuse to empty hundreds of bottles! I bet that you find hundreds of volunteers for this work! I think this man realy loves his ma!
Everybody who has ever seen my albums knows that i love green beer bottles especially if it is GROLSCH beer!
